ERBIL, Iraq, Jan. 11 — American troops backed by attack helicopters and armored vehicles raided an Iranian diplomatic office in the dead of night early Thursday and detained as many as six of the Iranians working inside.

The raid was the second surprise seizure of Iranians by the American military in Iraq in recent weeks and came a day after President Bush bluntly warned Iran to quit meddling in Iraqi affairs

This is a major attempt to implicate Iran for the downfall of Iraq. This could escalate from a cold war to a hot war very soon.

TEHRAN: Three strong explosions jolted southern Iran on Thursday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, but it was not clear if there were any casualties.

The cause of the explosions in Khorramshahr in the province of Khuzestan, which borders Iraq, was not clear, but a local journalist said they were controlled explosions to destroy land mines left in the area since the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

“The governor’s office informed people on Wednesday night that mine-sweeping activities will take place on Thursday,” a journalist with Iran’s state television told Reuters.

An Oil Ministry official said the explosions occurred far away from any oil facilities in Khuzestan, the heartland of Iran’s oil industry, where small bombs damaged 15 pipelines and one oil well in September 2005. reuters

Sounds pretty far out.

Could be anything, Iranian officials said it was mine sweeping operations to clear mines near Koremsharhr, Blowing up mines doesnt cause windows 30 miles away to shatter and heard from 50 miles away.

More then likely its either two things.

Effects based Operations by covert guerrillas either Kurdish or Azeri trying to destroy Irans oil pipelines and gearing up for the upcoming regime change planned by Bush.

Or its Iran testing clandestine weapons, either their new shahab 3 or 4 or possibly a small nuclear weapon or weapon designed to be equipped with nuclear weapons.

Order for Raid came directly from Bush.

Rice: Bush authorised raids on Iranians in Iraq

Quote:
Washington & Bahghdad: Recent US military raids against Iranians in Iraq were authorised by President George W. Bush under an order for a broad offensive against Iranian operatives in the country, the New York Times said on its Web site on Friday.

Right now this is an expansion of the already Covert war between the US and Iran now going on for 18 years. This started first with the Beirut Marine Barracks bombing, and Iran has been waging a covert war against US interests for years, especially by Al Quds brigades.

Mark my words on this forum, this is just another puzzle in the game piece to start fitting, A major escalation of events is no more then a month off in Iran.

My opinion is that US strategy will place a large amount of troops in Baghdad to counter iranian controlled shiia militants and a 5,000 strong marine reserve in the restive anbar province to keep the Sunni militants busy, and also a joint british and american force in Kuwait and near Umm Qasr and Basra to prevent their supply lines from being cut.

Move up strategic airfleets in the Persian gulf consisting of israeli, british and smaller coalition of forces to cut Irans electricity and destroy their 3 major nuclear facilities in Nantaz,Arak and other electrical/logistical/communications.

A Large presence will also be in Quetta,Pakistan. In the Bolochistan region as a safeguard in the east.

Kurdish and Sunni minority militant groups like Jundallah and MEK (Mujahadeen el-Khalq) Which is now under almost complete funding by the CIA. Kurdish militants are also being trained and funded by the CIA and Mossad (based out of the italian embassy in "green zone")

I don't like your words because you always seem so informed on the matter, which means you are probably right.

2006 Arrests in Iraq
On December 24, 2006, The New York Times reported that at least four Iranians were captured by American troops in Iraq in the previous few days. According to the article, the US government suspected that two of them were members of Qods Force, which would be some of the first physical proof of Qods Force activity in Iraq.[16] The president of an Iranian opposition group confirmed this from her own intelligence sources.[17] According to the Pentagon, the Qods Force members were "involved in the transfer of IED technologies from Iran to Iraq."[17] The two men had entered Iraq legally, although they were not accredited diplomats. Iraqi officials believed that the evidence against the men was only circumstantial, but on December 29, and under US pressure, the Iraqi government ordered the men to leave Iraq. They were driven back to Iran that day.[18]

Several days after their release reports emerged as to the information contained in the documents seized with the two men. The New York Sun reported that the documents described Qods Force as not only cooperating with Shiite death squads, but also with fighters related to al-Qaeda and Ansar al-Sunna. They also said that Qods Force had studied the Iraq situation in a similar manner to the US Iraq Study Group, and had concluded that they must increase efforts with Sunni and Shiite groups in order to counter the influence of moderate Sunni states.[19]

I find it very very hard, that Iran is cooperating with Al Qaeda or Ansar al Sunnah for that matter. Both of these organizations have targetted Iranian backed militas like Mahdi Army and Badr Brigade.

The Insurgent groups i BET Iran is supporting is the Al Rashideen Army, who with my own eyes have seen them using a large amount of Shaped Charge IEDs, Shape Charges are incredibly destructful because they are Cone shaped with a maleable metal in the middle like Copper or Tungsten, and the explosion creates a molten plasma of metal that can go through about 8 inches of reinforced armor. They can annihilate a Abrams no problem.

The Other group Iran is funding is proabably Asaeb Ahul Al Haqq
