Hobbit goes ahead without Jackson

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has been told he will not be employed on The Hobbit, the next film adaptation of a JRR Tolkien novel.

New Line Cinema, with whom he has been in dispute about income from the first Rings film, was not using him, he said.

Jackson had refused to discuss a Hobbit film until the case was settled but New Line said it now wanted to move on as it had "limited time" to make the film.

The Rings trilogy generated nearly $3bn (£1.6bn) in cinemas around the world.

Jackson's film company, Wingnut Films, brought a legal action against New Line resulting from an audit the company undertook on The Fellowship of the Ring.

That's good. Jackson's LotR were dull as hell. They were fully loaded stories before he ever got his hands on them, it would've been hard to make them not become very successful. I think the hobbit is a more interesting book than the LotR, I'd hate to see it get the Jackson treatment.

I just hope that whoever else does it doesn't follow in Jackson's footprints.

JRR Tolkein's LotR were boring as hell.... writtten more like a lecture by an elderly English history professor or something. Jackson turned those stffy historybooks/stories into rocking good cinema. Even the previous animated ventures were rather on the dull side.

I feel bad for this generation of kids who went crazy for the movies and whose parents bought them the books.... only to be incredibly disappointed by the slow pace.

I thought Peter jackson seemed to rip off the animated movies of LOTR, almost scene for scene.
So I am glad to hear this because I have seen the animated hobbit movie.

Some time ago, I suppose.

Well here are my gripes with Peter's job:

The drama is cheesy, sappy, fake, melodramatic, and dopey. It wasn't sincere, or believeable... out of all those words, "sappy" probably fits the best.

Tinted screens - they're terrible. They look awful every times, and they're used non-stop. I think he just used them so that he'd be thought of as artistic, because they sure didn't improve anything. The second one was all blue tinted, and the 3rd was all grey tinted. I don't remember what the first one was, tho it featured the least amount of tinting as was also my favorite - for many other reasons as well.

Bad CGI - the T-Rex in jurassic park was much better done. Way too much cgi as well, it stants out in every scene and creates a lack of presence. Cgi still fails to produce a feeling of volume when used, and I think it should have been avoided here.

The music stunk - there was about 20 seconds of good music, and they replayed it a dozen or so times and it just got sickening. The rest of it was garbage noise, and the movie would've been better off without any. They tried to get James Horner to do the soundtrack but he turned it down. If he had, I'd bet he'd have done a great job.

The T-Rex in Jurassic Park (the car chase) wasn't CGI... that might be why.
