Proud to be white? What does that mean? Who gives a shit about skin color? 'Proud to be black,' to me is a throwback to a time when blacks were expected to get out of the way, sit at the back of the bus, pretend like they agree that they are second rate. Somebody defying this societal pressure might declare that they are proud to be black, despite the unspoken assertion that they should be ashamed instead.

Whites, as a group, have never faced this pressure in the United States. Blacks never enslaved whites, to my knowledge. That's why it's different.

That said, I think groups like the NAACP are working in the wrong direction, if reducing racism is the goal. To me, placing zero importance on skin color is much more important than awarding scholarship to students because of their skin color.

If you'd follow racist lines of thought then the USA is stolen property which should be returned to the Native Americans.
Utah, Delaware and Idaho aren't English words, nor according to racism do white people have any business being there. They should be parted from their possessions, which were obtained by racial theft, and deported to Europe.
We in Europe however aren't exactly cheering the arrival of 100+ million broke opportunists so perhaps Israel will give you guys the West Bank to settle down, being a befriended nation and all 



Seriously, if racism was law and was evenly applied, most racists would be far worse off than they believe they are now in a multicultural society. Racists have got no case.

Racism all too often is the PMS of feeling inferior.

You can be proud of your Nordic heritage, I for one am, but the difference between true pride and arrogance is that true pride doesn't look down on others who are different. Pride of your heritage implies at least some interest in your cultural roots, being proud to be white is like being proud to have red hair: silliness.
