WTF is this red sh*t

hey i made some cakes from brown rice flour, vermiculite, added some honey, and innoculated with some honey water, this is the first cake to shows sign of growth, but i've noticed what looks like bleeding on the cake, the outside of the patch is white everything else is red,whats going on?

I know it must be a contam, but that actually looks like a chemical reaction ... God Damn!

I'd say throw it away, but hold onto it despite my advice. Take a picture when this bizzare life form has manifested the entire bowl.

yea it doesnt look good to me either, just wondering what type of contam it is, i put it aside and am gonna check on it tommorow, i just hope it didn't affect the other cakes, but we will see. I saw something in the contam faq about lipstick mold, uddno it looked pequliar to me, i;ve seen cobweb mold and green molds and stuff but never anything that looks like blood. But we will see

i think i have the exact same contam on one of my brf/verm cakes. Its bright red and looks like fuzzy/gooey blood.

We still don't know what it is, but it seems it is not so rare. I get this often when I clone from wild specimens. However it is easly overgrown by agressive species (like Flamullina velutipes) and I actually managed to purify my cultures after few transfers.

Funny cause I just threw out a jar yesterday with that same stuff. It smelled like an outhouse on hot summers day.
