Sabby's Karaoke Request Thread

One of the perks to being a karaoke DJ is bringing the books home at night (at least on the weekends!), so I have an unlimited supply of karaoke tunes at my disposal.

I've been wanting to record some karaoke tracks of me singing for awhile now. So, if you have any songs that you'd like to request, just for the hell of it, I'll try to record them and post them here for you. My goal for the day is to complete at least three songs, and since I have nothing in particular in mind to sing, I want to take a few requests.

Just a few simple rules -

1) If I don't have the song in my books, I can't sing it. I'd waste too much time trying to find the track online.

2) Feel free to make a few requests. That way, I'm sure to have SOMETHING that you've requested in the books.

3) I really don't want to just go down the list and feel obligated to sing in the order it's posted. I might skip around the list a little bit and do the songs that I'd like to add to my collection first...Sorry! But even if I don't get to your song immediately, I'll try to rip most of them and can do more throughout the week. Please don't be offended if I don't do yours first, I'll get around to it when I can!

4) No heavy metal that will hurt my vocals. I do have a show tonight, so I don't want to do anything TOO strenuous.

If you're wondering why you should bother listening to random karaoke tracks sang by some chick on a forum (LOL), I'll be honest, there's no real logic behind it. I'm going to be doing this today anyway, and just want some ideas of what to sing. Even if you don't listen to them, it'll still help me out in building my library of music :smile:

Okay, the only things I have online at the moment are YouTube videos. Since they were recorded in VERY dim lighting and don't show what I look like, I guess I can post them here. The sound quality isn't the best in the world, but you can get an idea of how I sound.

I'm best at Soprano belting songs (Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Martina McBride, ETC.) so I'll probably pick similar songs first, as they show off my vocals better and that's the point of everything, really :smile: Also, I have a certain affinity for country music.

Anyway, thanks ahead of time ^_^ Sorry if this seems like a dumb thread, but I sincerely appreciate your help in picking songs.

Since nobody has taken the bait yet, I'll get things started with the Eagles - Desperado.

Opinions, critiques, etc. are more than welcome, but remember I didn't spend allot of time editing the track. I just sang straight through, then added an extra track for the harmonics near the end.

I'm actually very, very pleased with how it turned out (to be a quick run-through at least), so if you have a minute and can listen, I would appreciate it. (You know, I've realized that "I appreciate it" is probably the phrase I use most in a day...Insecure, much? LOL)

Freebird - now that's one I've never tried before. I need to find the original track first to listen again and get my timing right, but I will try to do that for you!

....I don't think baby got back would fit too well with my style though, LMAO. I might try to do it though just for fun!

One of the weirdest moments of my life -- tripping on a couple geltabs and riding along to a karaoke bar, walking in, watching some fatass 40-something redneck horribly murdering some country song and swearing that he was deepthroating the mic while his eyes swelled to about 4 times normal size.... I had to run outside and collect myself before I either puked or busted out laughing... I ended up laughing for a long time outside before my buddies came out to make sure i hadn't ran out into traffic...

On that day I declared that karaoke is one terrible activity to watch in west virginia...

LOL. I work Saturday nights in a very rough redneck bar where my husband and I are the only two people who can carry a tune in a bucket (and my roommate, who got me the job when she took another gig. I love her for that...I make a 300$ for 10 hours of work on the weekends and have the whole week to screw around and spend it...LOL...) The kind of place where people literally just go to get drunk and fight...Since I work there, we had my wedding reception there for free. Someone got maced...Now THERE'S a memory to cherish...

There's this one guy that comes in every weekend, and sings the same two songs. He's always so drunk that he's staggering. He plays pool with a broom because he doesn't like pool sticks. And he can NOT sing at all. But he enjoys singing anyway, and I had to memorize the CD number for Hank Williams Senior just for him...There's a collective groan among the staff every time he gets up to sing. Everyone else is mean to him because he's annoying, but I'm an overly nice person so he doesn't bother me too much. When My roommate worked there, she would cuss him out because he wants to do the same two songs every round, all night. He likes me because I just let him sing. When he has money, he tips me well for it. Good times, good times.

Yep. I know exactly where you're coming from.

Karaoke in KY isn't much better from what I remember. I used to live in East KY, right around the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg. I was in allot of contests growing up in the KY/VA/W.VA circuit.

Hell, my husband proposed to me on stage at this little redneck bar I work at...That's why the old karaoke DJ and I became friends, because she was so amazed that someone would do something so romantic in such a strange place. She's now my business partner and also my roommate, so I have allot of affections toward the bar. We go in every day just to talk to our other co-workers and give them a break (We're both bartenders as well, and we KNOW how it is to work, so everyone makes a sigh of relief when we come in...They know they can take a break and the karaoke girls will handle things, LOL.)

Another good thing about redneck bars is they usually pay under the table in cash. That's a GOOD thing for those who don't wish to leave much of a paper trail leading to them :P

And, usually, once you go to the same bar for a few weeks they treat you like family. It's that southern hospitality that I've actually found lacking in some of the states I've lived in.

Yeah there aint too many redneck places up here I live in washington state everything is all urban and filled full of wiggers that get pissed when ya wanna play some country. It sucks bigtime because that is all I usually listen to anymore. so most of my friends just have big bonfires in the woods and get fucking trashed better than any bar a bottle of whiskey is only like ten bucks vs five bucks a shot at the bar

Bonfires in the woods are always fun times! Especially when good stuff is involved.

Luckily for me I reside in the south at the moment, so redneck bars are a-plenty around here. The one I work at, though, is both infamous and notorious for being THE place to go to get drunk and pick a fight. Anyone who's been here for a month has heard of it. I've actually improved their business, though, since I've worked there, because everyone is telling everyone else about the girl who rattles the walls when she belts a song :P I've had about 5 new people a night for the past month that came JUST because they heard I was working there. Makes me feel all warm and cozy inside...And I know it's because of the regulars getting the word out, too.

Nothing's quite like the friendliness you can find at a good ol' redneck bar. Everyone becomes like a family. A big, dysfuntional, fucked up, drunken and drugged family.

Kinda reminds me of home :P

haha yeah there is one bar like there here in town but now they play rap and country pretty much the only country they play anymore is she thinks my tractors sexy and honkytonk badonkadonk which are both horrible songs

BTW, I couldn't find Freebird in the two books I have at home right now...Dammit! I haven't looked for Baby Got Back yet...

Any other suggestions? ANYTHING. Make me a list. I'm really wanting to sing right now...LOL

LOL. I get a surprising ammount of metal at Cappy's. And Southern Rock too...Gotta love some skynard.

Not too many people there are into the whole rap/hip hop/R&B scene. Every once in awhile I'll play some hot-beat dance music and everyone in the bar will just get down. The dance floor is small, and everyone just staggers around drunkenly. It's great to have a place like that feel so comfortable that you can make a total ass out of yourself and not care...Heheh.

Well, slow songs that have some nice long notes sound good. It makes for a good warm-up for my show tonight.

I'm going to record something else randomly and post it. I'll probably just flip open the book and sing the first thing that pops out at me.
