Wow - I found this mushroom in my back garden!
    #6216766 -

Hi there

Can anyone identify this mushroom? Pls see my shared pictures.

I think it is Fly Agaric?

I’m going to remove it as I have a very inquisitive two year old boy.

What is the best way to remove without spreading spores?

I found it in my back garden in Leeds – Yorks - UK

Cheers

Wildmanjohn

You don't wanna let your child near that!! It Is an Amanita, Could be a Fly Agaric, to identify it properly you need to look at the base of the stem where there would be concentric rings. But either way remove it, don't worry about spores, as it probably has a large mycelium system connected to a host tree and will probably reoccur annually. I rarely see them solitary so be on the look out for more!

Holy dog shit! Texas? Only steers and queers come from Texas, Private Cowboy. And you don't look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down. Do you suck dicks?

Thanks for the info

I have removed the mushroom away from little hands! Its new home is the dustbin!

The mushroom was next to a birch tree which is apparently the key habitat for such fungi.

I will report if I find anymore

Cheers

Yep, thats Amanita Muscaria, or the Fly Agaric. Pretty mushrooms, but, yeah, not to be screwed around with.

yeah its not one that u want ya kids to eat by mistake...

better teach him not to eat those ones

its likely to be a companion of your birch tree,
so as others said they are likely to come back year after year.

I can definately understand your concern and reason for wanting to remove it, but I would have left it be. If one popped up there's bound to be more that will pop up in the future, and I think having muscaria in a garden would be a wonderful edition. This time of year especially, you would have to be on the lookout everyday if you wanted to get rid of them all. You'll just wind up going crazy constantly worrying everyday thinking your son might come across one. And even if your son would happen to eat one by accident it's not like he would die from it.

I know your son is young, but try teaching him about mushrooms. Take him out to the garden and show it to him and tell him that mushrooms, especially these ones, are not to be played with. Sooner or later your son will come across one and wonder what it is, so it would be good if he learned about them sooner, rather than later.
