dont forget when keeping him socially involved with peers, you can only do so much "after school" but there is the actual "school" experience he lacks.

its ultimately your call, but i feel like no amount of "tee-ball" can make up for chatting with your friends at break.

alienating your child may make him smarter but will dramatically stunt his social skills.

I know a few home schooled people. They are a cut above in social skills but they are not consumer sheep. Which is most likely what you call normal. :tongue:

i dont know it is just increasingly looking better to home school then going to public schools. its never a home schooled kid shooting up a school. i would venture to say there are more social misfits in public schools than home schools

Well, there are an awful lot of public school kids compared to home schooled so it's not an easy comparison.

What I value about home schooling is the opportunity to learn at ones own pace and ones own style and to delve deeply into things that interest one. For example the youngster who is home schooled in my house loves and is adept at computers. At public school he was going nowhere. Now he has started a small business and makes some money working with folks on basic computer things. He is learning the ins and outs of constructing a business of his own and about costs and benefits of your own business compared to working a job. He is also starting to learn about investing his capital for future growth. He's charging ahead and will most likely never be bogged down working for someone else.

Socially he is out of that nasty shit that goes down in junior high and can meet up with his real friends after school. He's much mellower since we took him out of school last year. He was doing poorly and yet his teachers said he was often the smartest student.

that's true in a few instances, I occasionaly deal with co-operatives regarding
produce and field trips, parents bring their homeschool kids up to see how a
farm is worked, they work a little and learn a lot, many of these kids are part
of a community co-op that does home schooling on a larger scale, several
families drop their kids to be educated together, they get the socialization
without the distractions provided by public schools

do you think the homeschool kids study all the time? no, they usualy have
regular hours just like the public school kids, they get out and play with other

on average 24 credit hours are needed in education to become a teacher in the
public school system, a far cry from a masters degree, in fact it's an

out of 12 years of school I had 4 good teachers, many that were mediocre and several that were shitty, a degree/certification only says you have met the states requirements, it doesnt make you a good teacher

my father in law is a mechanic, he's an ASE Master Tech and while I dont have
the official training the certifications and endorsements that he does, I'm a
better diagnostician than he is, I dont need 8 machines to tell me that an O2
sensor is bad or that a catlyitic converter has collapsed, I can tell by how the
car sounds, drives and smells.... incidentaly, he changed engines because he
couldnt track down a tapping noise in his firebird, the noise continued with the
new engine, I recomended a new fuel pump, when his finaly went out and was
replaced, the noise went away as well... certification doesnt make you good
just says you can pass some tests, it's the real world that's the real test

as parents we teach our children that certain people should be trusted, for
instance, if our child comes in contact with a stranger that wants to take him
for a ride, the police or a teacher is the one they should seek out immediately,
teachers are on the trusted list, so when a teacher says that they'll be
pricking fingers and looking at blood the students earlier learning of trust
come into play why would this 'trusted' individual be having me do something
stupid, think that crosses a kids mind when it's happening? not likely because
as a parent you've told your child that teachers are trustworthy

I think to be a sucessful homeschool teacher, you have to be very educated, have a ton of resourses and be very motivated.

The people I know that homeschool do a job I feel is less than public schools. I guess it depends what the public schools are like where you live too.

The few people that I knew that started homeschool dropped out. Of course they smoked all the time and their parents didn't really care, so it was kind of natural.

I was homeschooled and I have issues.  Even a few years afer finishing high school i still feel socially awkward and still consider myself to be a pretty weird guy, and i hatewhen i get asked where i went to school at.

  I have to agree with that south park episode, the public education system does a pretty shitty job of getting you ready for college, but on the other hand its hard to learn the social skills you need when you're stuck at home all day.

and as for socializing with other homeschooled kids, hanging out with other dorks doesnt really teach you how to be cool  :smirk:

I was always a shy person so its hard to say how i would've turned out if i had went to high school.  Even at college its still hard for me to meet new friends(still living at home) because most people still tend to hang around the same group of friends from high school.  Most of the ppl i know/hang out with are from work.

anyways, if i ever do have kids im not gonna homeschool 'em, my 2 cents.

When kids are home schooled they don't get to go thou name calling, fighting
How to deal with other people.
That you don't get it you're way all the time.
That you can't aways run back to the arms of mother.
That you ideas all not always right.

Most of the time its because the parents thank that they can do better then the teacher.

I kown of two kids that didn't go to daycare/preschool. Because there mother didn't won't them getting sick.When they where young, now seven years later the kids get really sick.From not building up there body immune system.
Why is it in the usa, people aways blame some elise for there own mistakes. :rolleyes:

i know a lot of public school kids that are social retards. i knew a guy that was home schooled while i was in the army. he is a special forces instructor now.
i have known masters degree recipients who were social retards.
i really dont think it matters that much. i mean you SHOULD be learning more from your parents then teachers. that just seems like the natural order of things.

I think that whether or not home schooling is effective depends almost entirely on who is teaching them. If you plan on home schooling your children yourself, you should probably have a college degree, a lot of patience, and probably take some classes on educating children. Oh, and "reeding" is actually spelled "reading", just to clear that up.

Also, although some colleges are more welcoming to home schooled children now, it is still difficult in some instances for a child taught at home to be accepted into a good college. And, since you can't teach them at home for a college degree, how will they adjust to suddenly being thrown into a classroom environment with 30, 50, 100 other students? Will they be able to thrive without individualized attention?

I went to public school. I lack socials skills and I know peole who lack them as well. You can go through public school being the quiet kid and not get much social interaction. It's personalities. Some people are naturally outgoing. Some are not. I tried to be 'cool' last year in high school. Then I realized I will see less than 2% of my graduating class ever again so I stoped caring. Which is awesome.

I know some homeschooled kids who are social and everything and have friends. Just my experience.
