That's funny because I'd give exactly the opposite advice if you want to find a *good* (Nietzche's concept of good) girl. I was actively looking for a girlfriend for a few years when I was younger and would occaisionally get some ass with, well, typically the scum of the Earth. After I got tired of fucking trash cans and medical waste dumpsters I was just like "fuck it, I'm going to be celibate and concentrate on everything else that's important." I cleaned my act up, got a lot of 4.0s, worked out a lot, got more into several fun activities (dancing and nunchakus for me), and worked full time as a waiter with some late night sales to help out too. There's something really liberating about not caring if you find a girl, and apparently girls go crazy for that vibe. When I stumbled across an old crush from high school I asked her out on a date, took it slow, and bam - love of my life and eventual marriage. Everybody that matters to me has said at one point or another how freaking lucky I am, and I gotta agree.

Of course not everyone's down for all that, but actively looking for girls in my experience will only get you the bottom of the barrel. Just going out and making friends and having fun is a good way to meet more people, and that I'd agree with Geokills. But this is just what worked for me, actual experience may vary!

It's not me engaging the conversations, I'm usually to stoned at work to even have a desire to talk to people, and anytime a chick comes up to me and tries, I end up totally snubbing them without even realizing what I did till it's to late. I'll either abruptly end the conversation, instead of giving an answer to keep it flowing, or just totally ignore the person and be complacent to them in the first place.  That is what I meant by shoving my foot in my mouth.
any chick that has known me, except for a couple has never seen me as more than "A REALLY good friend." which is fine by me, but it does get old.

I do however think I may have a "date" on the 15th, if she doesn't stand me up, who knows.  Got a renaissance type fair to go to, and we're gonna eat some mush there and laugh at the "silly" dressed people.
I've never been on a "date", not exactly sure what that means.
I however somehow managed to be in a 5 year relation ship with a severely emotionally/verbally abusive woman tho, without ever having been on a "date" unfortunately, she raped me of genetic material by stopping her BC pills w/o telling me.  I have a wonderful 4.5 year old kid out of it, but abhor the mother.
