tye dye carpets

We've all done T-shirts or jeans.
But what about some carpet. My main carpet is stained so I have some layer stuff that is off white and I want to tie dye one of them.
Thing is, I think it would be harder than imagined to color a carpet ehh?
I am talking about a two foot by five carpet strip.

Any tips, advice is welcomed.

Especially hard with carpet when the method used for most tiedyeing is actually TYING the fabric into knots. Maybe if you had some really thin carpet and could mess with it before it was stapled to the floor...

you don't want your carpet to get really wet with ever you are attempting to color it with. It will probably just rot underneath the carpet.. believe me!

Your carpet will get moldy and smell terrible if you get it wet.

...I probably have something coming to me for saying that. Hahaha
