"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

"People do it every day, they talk to themselves ... they see themselves as they'd like to be, they don't have the courage you have, to just run with it."

Around $500 million. Ball park figure, but pretty close.

Edit: The figure above is for a shuttle launch and repair performed by NASA

You have to repair and boost it. If NASA or the Russian Space Agency is willing to do that if you pay for it, you can probably do it for 100million(really depends on what you have to pay for, could be more than a billion if you have to pay for your part of the whole shuttle program).

If not, you have a problem and it will cost billions and billions to do it yourself.

I imagine other compounds will fail in the near future so I don't think it would be worth it.

You can better put your money in the new James Webb Space Telescope.

Unfortunately, that won't be in operation for another eight years, at least... launch date is set for sometime in 2013, plus it will take half a year after launch to test and calibrate before actual science can be done... assuming they don't screw up like they did with Hubble and launch the telescope with faulty components (such as a warped mirror)...

True, but it can be done way faster if NASA sets its priorities right. If you give your Hubble money to the JWST project they might speed up the process.

We need a telescope race with NASA, ESA, Russia and China
