New on here - Austin, TX

Howdy all, I just found this board last night while being unable to sleep and wondering if it's actually rained enough lately...

This seems like a neat little community. I'm hoping there are folks on here that live in the Central or Gulf Coast areas of Texas. I always hear about people pulling pounds and pounds of cubensis from fields, but I've hardly ever walked away with more than 20 decent sized caps. Maybe this board will help change my luck this Fall? :smile:

It seems that most of the texan shroomerites live in Austin.
But welcome to the shroomery. Over at the hunting forum you should be able to satify what questions you may have on hunting. Or heck, take nature in your own hands and grow your own.

It is a major college area...I've met a lot of Shroomerites from Austin.

College Station area is a major college area too with over 40,000 A&M students and over 12,000 blinn students, yet I don't think I know a shroomerite from that area. Not even much of a counter culture eithier. The area is way too conservative. Heck I don't think I've seen too many houston shroomerites eithier. I should move to austin.

Austin is definately the best place to be in Texas, in my opinion.  I'm not a born Texan, but I really like this city.  "Keep Austn Weird," woohoo!  :grin:

I live in College Station. There is definatly a counter-culture growing. College Station and Bryan, Texas are practically one city. But, what I've seen lately are shirts, bumper stickers and such that read, "Make Bryan Weird." A kind of liberal balance to the super-conservative CS.

Heh, well, I grew up in Houston, and there is certainly counter-culture minded people between the Montrose/Westheimer area, UH, and Rice, not to mention the other universities and the plethora of rich white kids in suburban areas who invariably do drugs and question things sometimes (hey, that was me!). I never found anything very organized, but then again I don't really go out and look for counter-culture type stuff too actively. Mostly I just read, check stuff out, ponder, and live my life.

A lot of my friends went to ATM, and so we hung out and partied there a lot too. Sure it's a lot more conservative in the mainstream, but there's plenty of cool folks from what I saw there - you just have to look a little harder.

As far as Austin, I've been here awhile now and it's ok. I live pretty far North, but most of my jobs have been down South (which is the Austin most people talk about). I know Austin is famed for weirdness and all, and I even worked at a Planet K for almost a year, but I still haven't really hooked up with any like-minded folks.

There is also a huge emo/scene kid culture in Austin. Next time you're in Bryan/College Station you gotta check out this bar/club in downtown Bryan called Revolutions. Revolutions Try to go when Plump or Wish Found Nation are playing.
