Amazon.com and Target credit cards?
    #6011414 - 08/30/06 11:38 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I dont have a credit card and didnt plan on getting one, but the amazon one mentions a reward point system, which sounds cool cause I tend to shop alot on amazon. Anyone use this card?

And, same question, but for the Target credit card.

nope.  i signed up for a citibank card in college and i love it.  the interest rates are ridiculous but if u pay ur bills on time (the golden rule of credit cards being never use them for credit, only for convenience) its pretty sweet.  i get 5% back on all gas & grocery store purchases, and 1% back on everything else.  i earned a good $60 when i had to drive across the country

Read the fine print. See how much of a "reward" you actually get. Usually it's less than you'd imagine. For instance, I also have a 1% cash reward card. However, it's a graded reward and I don't hit 1% until; after I spend 3,000 for the year. In addition, 1% of 10,000 is only 100 bucks. Again, not a big reward.

As someone also also mentioned, BEWARE of the interest rates. My reward card interest rate is ridiculous (somewhere like 15%). Thus, your "reward" for an entire you can be eliminated by missing a single payment.

I'm insulted. Of course I read the fine print. I get 1% back on everything, period. 5% back on gas and groceries, period. It's simple as that.

yea I understand the interest rates, and I dont plan on ever paying late (cause I pay all my shit on time:thumbup:), Im just curious about whether the rewards are actually worth it.

Kake, that 5% back on gas and groceries sounds nice. Thats what Im talkin about, would the rewards for amazon or target be worth getting one? Or would it just be a waste of time?
Im guessing some sort of reward would be better than none right?
So, if not from Amazon or Target, where else?

i would get one that offers some kind of rewards, they all do nowadays, but some come with catches, others dont. airline miles are pretty sweet reward if you like to travel. just look around, and make sure you get a card with no fees. i recommend citicards.com tho. they might only start you out with $500 credit is the downfall. but after a year if you use it a lot and pay it on time, it will go up and keep going up afterwards. mine is up to like $2600 now - just remember its also bait to try to get you to use the credit and hammer you with interest.
