DSL disconnecting during downloads

I just got a new broadband connection and I'm having problems with it resetting every once in a while.. usually when I go to download something, music.. movies.. whatever, my dsl modem will just reset and I lose connection. Then 10 seconds later it's back on. Otherwise it's usually always fine while browsing the web, games, etc.. Anyone know what could be causing this to happen?

Almost sounds like a bad dsl modem... does it do it with a different computer as well?

no idea.. don't have a different computer to test it on :shrug:
It's a brand new modem though..
Could it be any of the windows services maybe?

The only way to know is to test with another computer or take your computer somewhere and see if the problem goes away.  Call the cable company and tell them what is up and ask what they want you to do.

call provider and complain. Let them figure it out, and possibly upgrade your generic POS modem to something worthwhile.

Suspect a bad modem too.. had a cable modem go bad on me the other month, but before its ultimate demise for well over a month I constantly was power cycling it particularly when d/l files through eMule. I called tech support and they allegedly monitored it and never got back to me... drove me nuts 'cuz if I was AFK then I was SOL and was seriously ready to switch to DSL in spite of the fact that everyone complains with DSL service in my city when the modem died. They replaced the modem, didn't bill me a month, and it's worked flawlessly since.

ehm let's see.. it be a Sprint/Embarq EQ-660R. No router.
I'm gonna call and complain since it's now pissing me off.

that is your best bet. You can try adn figure it out, but you are a paying customer, so they should really do it for you, and credit you for lost time. Customers are always right, and usually places give bare minimum on service/products unless someone says something, and then they dont mind helping you out. Aim high, you never know what you will get

the quickest things I could suggest, reboot, your modem
reboot your router if you have one, when I start lagging,
thats what I do.

It's not lag. It's random resets. where my modem just resets itself, and I lose connection.
And I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers for everything. I updated a couple weeks ago.. but I'll check.

mine does the same thing. its annoying as hell. i cant get through a d/l without it resetting which then usually resets the download saying "could not connect to server" then I have to start d/ling again and watch it fuck up again/ basically i acnt download shit because of it. if u find out whats wrong with lemme know so i can fix mine vice versa.

if its the modem itself resetting, then its a bad modem... if its dropping SYNC then its either the line or an unfiltered device (phone/satellite/alarm)...

When a download of mine freezes I unplug the cable, then windows gives me the "cannot connect to server" message, then I replug the cable, click the download link, and windows resumes it from where it last left off. It's very helpful when downloading large files, hope you can use that info.
