DSL blues...
    #2311380 - 02/07/04 01:11 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I currently have SBC Yahoo DSL service, and have an external modem on one computer, and an internal modem in mine.

Is there any way we can both be connected to our DSL service at the same time??

There is, but you'll need to network the two computers and the one connected to the DSL modem has to be running Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP.

(Well, it doesn't have to be, but it sure makes things easier.)

Anyway, if you use Windows, set up internet connection sharing and you should be good. The procedure's a little different for each OS but you should be able to figure it out.

Hope this helps,
-Y

Just get an extra network card for the computer connected to the modem and another for the second computer. Install them and setup ICS. This is the simplest way other than purchasing a router.

depending on how your ISP works you might be able to be looged on with more than one session at a time. In otherwords I have a dsl modem going into a dumb hub (x-over port) and my computers connect to that. My isp usses pppoe so I have a dialup pppoe connection on each comp. They can dial in seperately. Each must have it's own firewall though. you only need a router if you can only have one session or you want to use NAT.

I am talking about using 2 DSL modems on 1 line.

You can't put two DSL modems on one line.

A router (or sometimes a hub, depending on the network) will be your best bet. Some DSL service providers will "allow" (meaning they won't charge you extra, and might even support) networking with a router... you might want to call your tech support and find out. I used to work for Verizon DSL Tech Support, and we supported a few different types of routers.
