If you're talking Manhattan, rent's a bitch, expect to pay at *least* $1100/mo for anything that's not complete shit. Subway is $2.00 each time you ride, and you can go anywhere the subway will take you with that 2 bucks.

That's not half bad on the subway... OCTA is almost $2 each way now. How do the options change with an extra 1k for rent? And how do you know from Atlanta? :p

lol, and by not complete shit he means a one bedroom about the size of most poeple's living rooms.

edit: outside of manhatten its a bit more reasonable. you could get something real nice for 2k a month.

That's fine... I already live in a small studio, and it's not that great, so it might even be an improvement, especially if I spend more like $2k a month?

I've been to New York 3 times in the past 6 months and have recently considered moving there. I have a several friends who live there that have tought me "the ways of the city."

If you're able to pay 2k/mo for rent, you should be able to find a nice place. It all depends on what part of town you live in. The further uptown(Manhattan) you move, you get nicer places for less money. Keep in mind, the further uptown, the close you get to Harlem(say 99th street and up). I don't think Harlem is that bad, personally, but plenty of people argue otherwise.

Check out Brooklyn too, it can be a nice area, depending on where exactly you live in Brooklyn.

Well, I don't consider myself a hardened thug or anything, but I've lived in some pretty bad areas of California and Michigan...  so I'm not really scared of Harlem, per se. and I'm pretty sure I could find some "family" around there if I wanted.  Also, I know a lot of my friends from high school are in the area, which could be a good thing, and shouldn't be a bad thing, since the city is so LARGE I don't HAVE to see them.

Thanks for the info Gumby.  I might be heading out there, too

It really doesn't matter where you living in NY. I have a friend who lives in a complete shithole (efficiency where his toilet is in his bedroom) and he pays $1200 a month, which is more than I pay for my 3 bedroom condo.

Ha, I hate New York.

Yeah, but... for 2k I should be fine, right? I can probably afford a little more, too. I should know tomorrow, whether any of it is relevent.

And I don't want to hear Hate and New York... I Love California... I don't want to Hate New York...

well its all about what ever floats your boat. Living in the city is about being close to where you make the cash. You can make lots of cash in the city, so rent is just.

But yeah country living has a lot of benefits as well.

Yeah, nothing wrong with paying $5k a month for rent and food if you're making $10k a month, right?
