i found this in a closet in my house


i turned it on and it makes heat in addition to blowing air. ive read that heat can cause a loss of potency. how do i disable the heating element safely and simply.

i cant find a schematic for that model, Nesco FD-35 Snackmaster. sometimes you can just clip the wire that goes to the heating element. sometimes though, the element is wired with the fan whcih makes things a little more complicated. can you take a pic of the inner workings of the top of the unit?

So, if you are going to cut the heat then why don't you just use a box fan instead of ruining a completely functional piece of equipment?

it depends on how hot it gets. if it doesnt get too hot then youll be fine without doing anything to it

I cannot see the brand/make/model#.

If it has a temperature control dial.

Set it at 95/100, and you are good to go.

Others would even say higher, without any loss of magic.

haha im sorry this 2nd flush smoothie went straight to the dome

anyway i agree if theres no temp control and its too hot and you don't know what you're doing, just borrow the trays and set a box fan over top of it.  dont wanna ruin a perfectly good levitating lid top deyhdrator or electricute yourself now :thumbup:

Try putting a portion of the mushrooms in the dehydrator with the heating element still in tact. If no loss of potency is experienced - and I'm willing to bet there wont't - fuh-ged-a-boud-it.

i have what's probably an identical model sitting in my shed. the one I have has no temperature control and gets up to about 140F within about ten minutes. i just use it for fruit and edible mushrooms and it's great for that. but it might be hot enough that you lose some potency with psilocybin mushrooms. you might want to dry them with a fan and once they're largely dry throw them in there for a few five or ten minute runs before storing them. or you can put spacers (shotglasses, jars, whatever) inbetween the racks so that there's more airflow, preventing the heat from building up.
