Aquarium heater in mini-fridge
    #5474306 - 04/03/06 11:53 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I read a tek on turning a fridge into a incubator: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3766045/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1/nt/2

Im gonna put a 7.5watt fish-tank heater in the clear plastic container. Ill put some bleach or h2o2 in the water to reduce contams. The jars are covered with coffee filters and tinfoil so the chance of contams now are prob low, but with the water being that close to the jars anyone think theyd get contamd?

Anyone ever use a fridge this small as an incubator?

I am using a full size one, though it should work.

I would take it a part and clean it, but that is up to you.

Ok cool thanks. What should i use in the water, bleach or h2o2? Or are they both as effective

Bleach tends eat up metal and some plastics. Boil your water and you can probably use h2o2.

I don't know how you come up with this stuff but that is the best idea i have ever heard of, i assume it is a incubator / fruiting chamber? Like the bottom is blacked out and kept warm, and the top is hooked up to some kind of mist and has a light. WOW. How's that for discrete, nobody think to look in the fridge... Do have it padlocked?

I went out and picked up a 50watt heater and some h2o2. Cleaned out the fridge and im boiling some water now.

Its a cool idea, im thinking about getting another cheap mini fridge, maybe even a free one as Agar said. Use one as a incubator, the other as a fruiting chamber. Then in the future move up to something hes got

I would place a piece of tin foil over it.

Other wise condensation will build up.
