The race for the Timothy Leary biopic

The race has begun between Hollywood heavyweights to see who can produce a Timothy Leary biopic first.

Leonardo DiCaprio's production company, Appian Way, is said to be working on a project about the LSD-dropping former Harvard prof who became a popular advocate of the experimental '60s.

DiCaprio's version could have the upper hand as his father, George, was a good friend of Leary's. The psychedelic professor was godfather to Winona Ryder and best buds with her father, Michael Horowitz ? who was also Leary's archivist and has just signed on as creative consultant for the DiCaprio project.

The competition stems from director Darren Aronofsky (whose Oscar-winning girlfriend, Rachel Weisz, is pregnant with his child), who is also said to be working on a Leary-inspired film. Aronofsky's past work includes the sci-fi thriller 'Pi' and the drug-themed 'Requiem for a Dream.'

Wild.

I would trust Aronofsky's FAR more than DiCaprio's for the very reasons they say it would have the upper hand. It would be too pro-Leary for my tastes.

I think Aronofsky would do a much better job of taking an objective stance and producing a film moreso than a "biopic."
