I need help!
I was talking to a friend about the surreal nature of trips and dreams, and I made a reference to the story of the archbishop and the grasshopper. The gist of it is something like, "the archbishop falls asleep and dreams he is a grasshopper sitting on his chest. or his he the grasshopper, dreaming that he is the archbishop?" Now I've seen several references to this story in my life, but never really knew where it came from. I thought it was just common folklore. Well my friend had never heard of this. So now I need to know where the hell this idea of the archbishop and the grasshopper actually came from. I started searching the web and came up with absolutely nothing useful. I searched the MLA International Bibliography through my university too, and came up with nothing. So now I'm about to tear my damn hair out trying to figure out what the original source of this story is, and how I know about it. If I hadn't seen just a couple obscure references to it on the web, I'd think I had just dreamed this up myself by now. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

Chuang Tzu was a chinese taoist philosopher. That's all I know.

Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. I remember there used to be a black light poster called "bad trip" that featured the grasshopper and archbishop, but just my luck, I can't find it anywhere online now.
What the fuck? It's like someone has systematically removed this concept from my reality while leaving the memory of it in my head. The longer I go without figuring this out, the more it's upsetting me. Seriously, 5 shrooms to anyone with good info for me.

Chuang Tzu was a chinese taoist philosopher. That's all I know.
and considering Chuang Tzu lived around 4 BCE (ie before Jebus & his church), i think this metaphor was originally like this, and later christianized to involve an arch-bishop..
