I'm glad everyone's finally coming around!

(except the 3 diehard pride fighting guys who just won't give up )

Thanks for the punch link, I've seen it before but it's just so crazy. (Aww, I can't even play it on WMP for some reason)

Well that video sure settled it!

If a modern day fighter were to stand immobile and have a chair placed behind him while getting punched, Bruce Lee would crush him.

And speaking of diehard fans, if you visit any diehard MMA forum (e.g sherdog), you'll quickly learn that this subject isn't even debateable.

A more appropriate debate would be Bruce Lee VS. Sylvester Stallone. I mean, haven't you guys seen Rocky I-V? Those movies are proof Stallone was a bad-ass.

By doing the 1 inch punch he is obviosly leaving himself wipe open to many different counters.

The punch wouldnt be usable on the ground eliminating alot of power that would
be genterated from the legs and threw the hips.

Ive seen videos of bruce practicing his side kick over and over for hours so of couse
its gunna be devestating.

Just like anyone else if u studied bruce u can come up with many different ways of countering him.

Any fighter going in the ring against bruce would shurly have came up with so many
things he would do to get around it and would be watching for it.

One thing id like to point out is he said many times that the reason he owned everyone
was because he knew thyre style therefor he could pretty much counter anything they
threw.
he was bashing the styles and repeated routines.
Nowadays this is commonly known by any fighter that dominates.

i'm sorry, but i don't think that bas rutten guy could hold a candle to bruce lee... he is pure brute force... look at how open he leaves his guard most of the time...

plus he looks like a dumb, brute son of a bitch that knows nothing more than fighting... bruce lee was extremely intelligent and studied a lot more than just martial arts... just bruce's intelligence should be enough to kick is ass...

The one-inch punch wasn't very impressive... and the other guy was overly clumsy, tripping all over his chair like that.

This is what would happen to Bruce Lee after 10 seconds with Fedor:

When bas rutten faught he even said he had no ground skills at all.
in a sence u could say he had more ground skills than bruce cause at least ive seen
him fight on the ground.

never said he could beat bruce. just one of my favorite fighters.

One thing that made bas so good was that he always swtiched things up.
Not letting his opponents get a read on him wich is very smart.

Didnt u ever see that movie when bruce was fighting the big dude, the tower one.
bruce was talking about the guy being so big that hed just have to wait for him to wear
down and shit.
It was even eastablished that he would have lost if it wasnt for bruce exploiting
the big guys one weakness. In other worlds bruce got lucky and he knew it.
Bruce discovered his weakness purly on accident but he was intelligent to use it
against that guy.
Basically bruce was trying to get across that u have to use people weaknesses against
them i think but if that big guy wasnt albino or watever bruce would have lost.
if u think diffenent watch the movie again.

so saying big brute force is nothing is just ignorance.
Also looking at someone and saying they look dumb is just wrong.
he had to have some sort of intelligence or he wouldnt have lasted a second in any
ring.

That was Kareem Abdul Jabaar, and he was a student of Bruce Lee (after his basketball career I'm guessing).

Anyway, Bruce Lee eats nails and leather for breakfast, and concrete for lunch. He sleeps on a bed of diamond encrusted broken glass, and sets himself on fire 12 times a day.

Take that.

just to comment on this, in all bruce lee movies he always takes more of a beating than he really would in real life. remember that in his movies he is strongly trying to show his way of thinking about martial arts and thus for it to be applicable to others, he has to make those movies knowing that no one could do the things he could. alot of times he made himself look weaker cause in most cases, size does matter. so, my point, in this movie he does it for the viewers.

and on this is mainly just to show his power, and not necesarily a means of an actual punch. but then again, if you get into close combat, where you possible have your limbs locked or something, or are just really close, it shows how much incredible force he could bring out so fast. hes like a fuckin bomb.

and tell me how many ufc fighters have made a punching bag explode. ive watched a ufc guy train and his punching bag doesnt even hit the ceiling.

sorry for the long responses, but bruce was the bomb, i cant let that go unheard.

I train in martial arts, so I don't overlook the styles as much as other people in this thread might.

JKD is amazing, beautiful, lucid, flowing, but traditional JKD just isn't efficient at getting the job done.

i havn't watched bruce lee for ever, but i downloaded some videos. I also recently have been watching a lot of ufc videos. All is what I can say, is would Brice Lee even give them the light of day to touch him. Also, as Shroomism pointed out, the origins of martial arts or let me say kung fu has no form. It is the bases of martial arts, Bruce Lee uses whatever force is needed to combat an attack most efficiently.

Agreed, he was the man!

UFC, would not stand shit. Most of the UFC fights I see most of the damage being done when one is on the ground, or they both are. Just wailing on eachother, missing punch after punch.

I highly doubt Bruce would fall to these guys, and if he did, he'd be up and kicking again before you knew it

Bruce is so fucking technical, he studied fighting down to a T. "His" JKD was all about efficiency. Just like everyone else said, whatever works with the formless fighting style efficiently, he would adopt. He was a scientist.

With today's suppliments, readily accessible resources (TeH INTERWAB!) et al I think he'd be even more of a marvel. There's no doubt about it. If Bruce was transported to our time right before his death, I could honestly say he's got a good chance of getting pummeled. But fuck, he hasn't been fighting in the UFC or other tournaments for 30 years! If he was taken into our time and trained TO fight in these tournaments, I think that he would absolutely fuck shit up. Straight up. I don't have a doubt in my mind that he'd rip the faces off his opponents and eat them, as well as their childrens faces. Yeah... I think it'd go something like that.

I think Spud needs to reread the last sentence of the Tao of Jeet Kune Do. One of Lee's students was holding a kicking bag, Lee kicked it, the guy flew across the room and landed hard against the wall. Accounts from the other students were pretty clear in that they all thought Lee had killed him. I think Lee would win because he just understands fighting, even with a new style, I am pretty positive he could adapt to it, or intercept most of their hits. He was extremely powerful and extremely quick both physically and mentally.

Man, if he parked his ass in front of the coach and watched as much MMA as some people I know, I'm sure that his JDK would be more explosive. People can saturate themselves in more "fighting" than bruce ever could back in the day. And they can do this in front of the tv or computer with a credit card!

I usually go on martial arts binges... smoke tons of pot, shadow box, watch sweet ass B movies and read martial arts literature. Fuck yeah, I'm in one of those moods right now. Thanks guys. I'm not working out today but I'm going to go train my abs like a mutha fucka.
