Molds, Yeasts, etc Any help appreciated
    #5386034 -

Well, I'm working on a project in English which I have chosen to write about Fungi. The assignment is 3 research papers on a similar category, with differences of course. I'm going to do one paper on medicinal uses of molds, yeasts, and if need be, mushrooms. Next paper will be the environmental impact of fungi, more specifically mycorrhizal mushrooms. The third paper is going to be a persuasive paper concerning adding mushrooms to the average diet for health benefits.

I am having problems finding information on molds and yeasts used in medicines. I know pencillin and possibly brewer's yeast. I know there are more out there, but I'm just not searching right apparently. I've tried google and a few different databases with little to no luck.

If anyone can give me names of molds, yeasts, or similar fungi, databases to search, or journals applicable, I would appreciate it immensely.

Thanks man, but the medicinal mushrooms aren't the problem. I've got most of those sources covered. It's the molds and yeasts that are eluding me.

Aren't most molds harmful to humans? (Besides Penicillium.. the only beneficial mold I am aware of) I know just as little about yeasts.. sorry.

Well, I've searched through the library database which is connected to most major libraries in the state, and very little new info is available.

Sorry RandalFlagg, I'll have to decline your oh-so-generous offer.

Ah thank you google. I just discovered a new yeast. Saccharomyces kefir, Torula kefir, Lactobacillus acidophilus?

Awesome, that'll be a nice start...might I ask what your search command was on google to get that? I tried basic searches and advanced searches for both general information and specifics, but kept getting the same types of things such as sick building syndrome and "molds are going to kill you" etc...

I believe I started with 'practical medicinal yeast' and also 'medicinal yeast study'
