Dr Phil sucks

Just now I put on the TV and I saw Dr Phil's tater fill the whole screen while he said: "Drugs"
That got my attention :wink:

The topic ended with Dr Phil *forcing* a kid into rehab by coercing parental consent out of his parents, what he was on I'll never know.

Next topic, which I saw in full, was about DXM. Being an O.D.D mod I know a thing or two about the subject.

It was HORRIBLE. First of all he exclusively equated DXM with Coricidin. Coricidin however contains a second medication which is far more toxic than DXM. He then went drama queen to the parents of a girl by stating how their teenage daughter could meet a fate worse than death. ALL the horrors he attributed to DXM were effects of the "other" drug in CCC. Then he showed a box of Coricidin as being the drug in some flashy clip.

Every user shuns Coricidin like the plague because of additional toxicity, but Mr Pseudology walks in and equates DXM = CCC
Kids watching his show could DIE because they now think the toxic CCC is the desired drug.

He then starts working the teenage girl by coercing answers from her using audience & common sense pressure. Please note: anyone who pays attention knows she's not answering from the heart but rather feeds him what is socially desirable, and he then passes this snake oil off as his cure.

Then he says: "This girl has low self esteem because she uses drugs, and nobody who loves themselves would sink to such depths as to use drugs." Say what? But he continued.
"Nobody who has healthy self esteem would engage in activities that can be dangerous."

Has this man studied houseplant psychology?
He then defended the girl's mothers action of effecting a phone-tap on her daughter by saying: "We should respect our childrens privacy but when danger is involved it stops right there. Then anything goes."

What an incredibly incompetent psychologist. He is venting the socially acceptable, mingled with extreme prejudice and passes it off as psychology. He deliberately uses audience pressure and rethorical questioning to steer people into saying stuff which is *not* helpful and *not* their opinion, but which sound good for a TV audience who watch passively.

--misidentification of DXM in a very dangerous manner
--horror stories based on twisted facts
--antagonizing parents from their kids
--coercing untrue answers because they sound good on TV
--abuse of psychology against the client's best interest
--blatant blending of opinion and untruths with fact

Dr Phil sucks.

He recklessly endangered the lives of the more "experimental" fraction of his audience, bullies people around using teh psykology skillz, fans the flames of the War On Drugs and provides lousy entertainment :wink:


What got me riled up was how he gets away with it. If only people thought independently...

You're just now realizing what an ass that guy is?

You're absolutely right on the money with everything you said, just 4 years late.

However, 10% or so of the things he does is admirable stuff. He does help some people greatly. Very few, though.

I've got to agree with you though... there WILL be more kids who try CCC now, and undoubtedly more problems with kids ODing on things like acetaminophen, decongestants, and expectorants.

I've done clean extractions of DXM before and can see that it has its uses, but i don't think railroading a teenager into rehab over it is going to accomplish much. DXM, IMO, has to work itself through you... IOW, you try it, either like it or you won't, and if you do you'll eventually realize it isn't the holy grail or something to binge on constantly and quit. Forcing someone to accept a viewpoint because it's the cultural norm will ultimately backfire.

People that watch shows like Dr. Phil and buy into the BS just want to be told what to think, because they are too apathetic to educate themselves and form their own thoughts and opinions. People need to realize that television is entertainment geared toward the lowest common denominator and facts are few and far between.

I, like most people here, do drugs to alleviate boredom and in spiritual practices to experiment with my own consciousness. Still not entirely sure why that's illegal. It has nothing to do with self-esteem.

"Dr. Phil" is not a REAL doctor!! He got a bullshit diploma-mill degree. He did not graduate from an accredited university.

He is a bullshit scam artist, just like the dumb fuck who wrote "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" or whatever the hell he wrote. He has a mail-order degree as well.

Good to see we're all smart enough here to see through his bullshit. Anyone with a spark of intelligence can watch one episode with Dr. Phil and see he obviously has no clue what he is doing, even if you aren't educated on the topic.

it seems in general dxm gets alot of shit because of ccc's. all the articles and whatnot relating to dxm never expose the other ingredients that in the end, did them over...not the dxm. there have been a few deaths due to dxm, but its not that harmful when used in moderation.

and for the record. dr.phil needs to die.

All you need is a mustache and a few hundred people that agree with everything you say to be a psychologist, apparently.

Fucking tv is sick, how does this shit pass off as therapy or psychology?

Now that I think about Dr. Phil is probably going to be responsible for a death by putting it into people's heads that you get high off triple Cs. He should at least research the drug and tell the truth about it if he's going to demonize it, so little kids watching the telly can go out and buy the real deal and not get dead.
