holy shit this show is great. i just downloaded 2 seasons worth. this is probably the ONLY network sitcom i have enjoyed, since seinfeld ithink. its actually clever, edgey, sometimes laugh out loud funny. steve carell from 40yr old virgin is the star, dude is funny.

The original british version is waaaay better, but the American one definitely cracks me up.

Did that show get canceled or something? I remember seeing previews for it awhile ago but never got to watch it.

Thursdays on NBC, usually like 7:30 here. funny funny funny... although I can't wait for Pam and Jim to tell eachother how they REALLY feel, but then unfortunately so much of the carry-over draw will go away...
Steve Carell is a mutherfucking funny bastard.

Odd man out here.
I just don't get the attraction to this show. I can't understand why so many people find it funny.
Neither my brother nor myself nor anyone I know IRL can stand to watch the show for more than 5-10 minutes before switching it off. It doesn't make me laugh at all. It's just plain stupid. Steve Carrell is a decent actor. He makes his characters believable, but I don't think he's so funny. I saw him on Conan a little while back and he did a short bit called "The German Who Says Nice Things" THAT made me crack a smile and maybe even giggle a bit.
I give "The 40 Year Old Virgin" 2 stars. Not a really funny movie. Carrell was perfect for the part though.
Can someone please explain what makes "The Office" so appealing?

I thought the British Office was excellent. Saw a couple of the US episodes and it really sucked. I thought I'd give it a chance but it just isn't funny.
They tried to copy Ricky Gervais' character (David Brent) too hard and they couldn't pull it off with that dude from the 40 year old virgin - he just isn't that funny.
Ricky Gervais is more of a comedian than an actor.. he hasn't been in any movies.
Steve Carell is an actor and I think it really shows - he doesn't seem right for the part and the whole thing looks a lot more acted and less beleiveable than the UK version.

That's exactly what I did yesterday for my management class presentation.
We showed the clip where he tells the office they're being downsized.
David Brent: "I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is, Neil will be taking over both branches, and some of you will lose your jobs. The good news is, I've been promoted."

Check out his DVD's if you can get them over in the US - his 2 stand up shows, 'Politics' and 'Animals' - very funny!
