i was at my friends last weekend and played around with his. they are the most chilled snake ive come across. i would just sit back on his couch and it would slither all over me. felt amazing.

Why would someone want to own a snake?

You can't put it on a leash and walk it, you can't really play with it, it's not soft and fuzzy.

Are those kind of snakes poisonous? I wouldn't mind getting one as long as it doesn't bite/isn't poisonous.

pythons are not poisonous.

i'd prefer owning a cheetah but.... to each his own.

Yah dude,

Congrats on your ball python. You made an excellent choice. I used to breed Burmese python morphs to supply the reptile/pet stores.
After a nasty motorcycle accident I was unable to handle 100-200lb snakes.
Now I breed ball python morphs. Have you heard of Pied balls, pastel balls, axanthic balls, ghost balls? I'm working on a ghost pastel pied project. I will include some pics of one of the big breeder female of the green morph ( 185lbs.). Compare here size to the 2 by 4's right behind her. Below are some pictures of Burmese python morphs and of the ball python morphs we've breed.

be careful with that one... I knew a guy that was bit, he chopped of his hand
because he couldnt get to a hospital, most bites from coral snakes are fatal,
the rattler nipped me but nisnt inject any or enough venom to do anything

I got bit by a Red Diamond back when I was young ( walking in a grass feild ) Luckily it was a dry bite. Believe me I'm careful with venomous reptiles. Famous last words.

I'm thinking of getting a Rhino viper. Display only.

Chopping your hand off has a significantly higher mortality rate than a coral snake bite.
You can have several hours before a coral snakebite starts to get you. sometimes an entire days grace.
A severed hand can fatally exsanguinate a human in minutes.
What im trying to say is that it was an unwise, uneducated choice.
the danger in coral snake bites lies in the fact that they are painless and often go unnoticed until paralisys sets in.
If you can get to a hospital within a few hours you are almost guarenteed survival.
A severed hand requires medical attention too. perhaps even MORE urgently.

he cauterized the wound... the man was very experienced in dealing with the
woods, when a coral snake bites you it hangs on, it tries pumping as much
venom as possible into you, it's not painless from my understanding and in
most cases people panic, this increases circulation and speeds the effect of
the venom, theres one species common to arizona that doesnt have an antivenom

problem is, when you're 3 days out from a hospital you do what needs to be done
in order to survive, it's not difficult to stop bleeding even in the woods, it
just depends on whether or not you have that kind of drive, personaly, I'd
probably have died from the bite in his situation, I dont believe I could
have cut off my own hand

I would have yanked the snake forcefully away by the tail throwing it away in the same motion to avoid further biting, ripping open the wound, then I would have packed the wound tightly in dry moss. I would replace the moss evry few minutes to draw blood and vemom from the wound. sorta macro-osmosis.
I don't know if that would work... but that's what I would do.
I certainly would avoid being so far into the woods withought a radio.
3 days? was he walking? he must have been carying 6 days worth of survival gear, and no snakebite kit? yoiks.
I would definately have a kit. but then I would be LOOKING for snakes, also I would wear my hard leather gaiters. thats just me.
