Can anyone recomend a good Sattellite Internet company???

Anyone? im thinking of getting a sattellite account beacuse i cant realy get anything good in my area. anyone use sattellite internet currently?

can you get a voip phone line over it??

Something I'd be interested in as well. I swear, every other month I open my cable bill and it begins with: "Due to rising costs, we must increase your bill etc. etc.".

The main thing keeping me from switching to direcTV is internet. You would THINK satellite TV could also provide satellite internet, but they all recommend DSL.

I use Direcway at home because I cant get anything else..

Have you looked into DirecPc? It's offered by the DirecTV people... I haven't researched it in about a year...back then the download speeds were supposed to be fast but you needed a phone line for upload stream. They sold two way satellites for TV/internet at the time

Sattalite is a waste of money unless you plan on downloading ALOT of stuff. It's no good for games because you still use your modem for uploading.

It's expensive too!! $100+ a month where I live.... I use a high speed cellular modem. I can't get DSL OR Cable modem service out here... I have to use Satellite or cellular, and the cellular is cheaper and faster. Look into high speed wireless from a cellular provider.

alot of the tour busses i go on have mobile satellite internet... even in the middle of the desert or montana. that is something i would like to look into.

depending on your area a WISP might be availible

WISP = wireless internet service provider

for example in colorado http://www.cowisp.net/aup.asp

Im debating what the story with the burried fiber optic cable that at&t has......

although i doubt that they would un-earth it for litle ol me :smile:

do they still have a cap on bandwidth or are you on a business plan, I dropped
them like a bad habit when they bottlenecked me in the first week after claiming
'unlimited internet', they didnt even provide a usenet feed and capped me at 250mb/month for download

I used to install for DirecTV, I seen a couple people with Directway setups, a huge dish, expensive setup fee, and the internet connection sucks bad!

If you can get any other form of internet outside of a 56k phone modem, I'd go that route.
DSL is way better, and a cable modem is better yet!

Also look into the wireless WiFi connection in your area.

Directway is very last resort.
