Monogamy was around way before hollywood and the idea of marriage has been passed down by the family unit for... centuries.

The idea of a fuck buddy is nice but feelings do get involved eventually... it's unnavoidable. And no matter how you feel about it, that fuckbuddy/girlfriend will play along until she snaps and goes psycho on you... TRUST ME!

my friend was talking his girlfriend about this, he told me. she was layin out the marriage rap, and he said 'marriage basically means we are dating forever right?' to which she responded 'yes'. he then said 'well lets just date forever and leave it at that, cause you just agreed its the same thing', and she got real pissed.

god it feels fucking great to be single

Me too. A cynical person might point out that I rarely get laid anyway, so I would probably do better in marriage. Perhaps this is true, but I don't think it explains it entirely. I've always been a romantic at heart, and I have absolutely no problem with commitment if it's the right girl.

I do agree that people should simply enjoy each other's company while they're having sex (and refrain from getting attached), but I don't agree with the dating and going places together concept. I've never been in a steady relationship, or really even an unsteady one. And although I don't crave commitment, I don't have a qualm regarding forming relationships. So stop with the damn gender generalizations! Every time I read a thread directed toward women, and the way we all supposedly act, the stereotype never applies to me.

I think history shows otherwise.

Shroomery threads featuring stories from jilted lovers are more accurate than history in my opinion.  :smirk:

Monogamy has only become prominent in modern societies, particularily in the west.

Then all of a sudden she says well we are just to good of friends to date or go anyfurther. Just speaking from experience.

I'm afraid you've got the wrong idea about monogamy. Monogamy means staying with one partner your whole life. Extra-marital affairs occur do not negate monogamy. Monogamy does not mean the absence of cheating. Furthermore, even in societies where polygamy was practiced, it was essentially reserved for the highest members of society. Most common folk throughout history have practiced monogamy, ancient Rome included. The excesses of the rich are not the norm for most people, and never have been.

Honesty, for me it's that feeling of "there's no one else i'd rather be doing this with" factor. i want someone to be into me to be into all parts of me, to want to pick at my brain and know me. just like i would like to do with someone else, i mean that's what a relationship is all about, there's nothing wrong iwth getting involved with someone and dating someone. but i think sex complicates it a lot. that's something people don't want to admit. and i am not one of those people who believes people should wait till marriage for sex either. All i'm saying is that when you take on the actions and responsibilities that a relationship hold when you are just dating someone and getting to know them, it complicates a lot.

and ultimately i am not comfortable at all sexually with someone if i don't know that they are totally into me. Like why are you having sex with me, is there something you like about me? and is this going anywhere? why do our mind immediately go there? because you get to know someone through sex in a much more intimate way. i dunno. that's just how i feel.
