I'm a pretty active ancient coin collector, mostly Roman but also Celtic and Judean. What do you collect?

I have around 20 ounces in various US historical pieces and a few .999 coins. I don't collect them to sell or horde.. just to look back, and also retain a piece of valuable history. I'm always checking the change at work for silver.. I see tons of dimes and quarters I figure I'll find one soon like I used to when I was a kid. I've also bought a good number of coins, from different eras... and searched places like flea markets for good deals

Exactly.. It's a good investment, the only I've had to sell were some random print troy ounces... I only had to pawn 3 of them :0 Plus when terrorists/aliens hit, silver would be better than paper( but both would be pretty worthless)

Damn, dude. How were you able to turn such a large profit?

I had a Saddam dollar somewhere around here, but I can't find it.

So you made 12k because someone had originally appraised it incorrectly? That's friggin' crazy good luck.

My most valuable coin currently is a 1900 O/cc graded ms-65 by PCGS. The most valuable coin I have owned was an 1884-s in ms-63 condition, which I bought, and sold, and made several thousand dollars on.

I had a 1652 spiny oak shilling, minted in Mass. a 'friend' stole it and a couple
guns from me as he was moving to return to michigan, knew him 7 years.

it was the typical story of 'found in a desk', a dozen others had been through it
and found other coins

Yeah I used to collect them. Haven't done anything with them in years though.

A couple of years ago I bought and resold coins on ebay. I bought mostly $20 Saint Gaudens gold coins and a few Morgan dollars. I made between $50-150 on each one.

I was doing pretty good until I bought 5 Saint Guadens coins that I tried to make a haul on. They were ones that would go up in value from $500-$800 at MS63 to $4000-$9000 at MS64-65. I took them out of the cases and sent them in for regrading. 4 out of the 5 came back lower grades and 1 came back the same grade. I took a loss on all 5 coins.

Since that fiasco I haven't bought any more coins. It was pretty cool holding a piece of history in my hand, plus those coins are gorgeous.

They were PCGS & NGC graded. I sent them to NTC to try to get a bump up in grading. They were taken apart without damaging the coins.
