10oz - 100oz - 1000oz
This is a good place to start. A 100oz bar is about the size of a small brick. A 10oz bar fits in a pack of cigarettes. A 1.000oz bar is the size of a loaf of bread.
Don't buy 1.000oz bars though, because your buyer might request a testing of it.

Thanks for the thread. I was just thinking about this yesterday.
Thanks for the link WS...heres my first meager investment!
Order Items Qty Item Price Ext. Price 10 1 oz (.999) Fine Silver Rounds $17.42 $174.20 7 .999 Fine Generic Silver - As low as .19 per ounce over spot!! $17.27 $120.89 1 (10 oz) .999+ Fine Silver Bars $175.20 $175.20
Sub-Total $470.29 S & H $24.06 Total $494.35
BTW, I'd love to grab some of those Chinese Panda coins but I'm going to have to wait till I get more money.
WS, whats your gold collection mostly consist of? What coins do you like etc. Do you buy anything that you consider more visually appealing over something that might be a little "better value"?

Hey if silver is going to increase 6x like some think it will, its not so meager anymore 27 ounces of silver at $18.30 an ounce, congratulations!

Obviously, gold
In my opinion these are the best gold bullion coins out there: not too much premium and very well-recognized.

Chinese Panda coins
Better stay away from those! Beautiful as they are there are so many forgeries that Pandas have gained a notoriety. This may limit the number of people who'll buy them.

I prefer undamaged goods, other than that I have little interest in numismatics and strive to get as close to spot as I can.
With Gold having gone quite high quite soon, personally at the moment I consider silver to be a better deal than gold. I'm expecting gold to decrease considerably somewhere early this year. But then again, it might just rise and rise, now that the Fed cut 1.25% off the interest rate in a mere few days.
If you want to buy Silver 1-ouncers I'd prefer Silver Maples myself, but if you consider it an investment in not too troubled waters its best to stick with 10oz and 100oz bars.
Once your invested sum becomes more sibstantial, its best to rent a safe deposit box at a bank.

Thanks for the advices WS. Some good recomendations I wouldn't have thought of.
I did however speculate that now might not be a good time to pick up gold. My instinct tells me that it will also head down before the next steady rise, but then again I really don't have any experience to back that up with.
BTW check your PM's

Say Wiccan, I know that you're both interested in the monetary and spritual side of gold.
cf. this thread
Do you make a point of buying post-apartheid Krugerrands or are 1984 coins like the one in your picture fine too? Not to mention having Paul Kruger on the front... How does this work out karma-wise?
Don't tell me your current Alex Jones / Zeitgeist watching mindset is the result of drinking too much water imbued with Illuminati gold?
