LCD repair... wow, polarizers are expensive

or so it seems.

I spent a few hours today on a 17" dell lcd... an e173fp.

Back in september I had a little flip out and lets say, I wasn't grateful for having a nice monitor and dinged it up a bit with my fist and some other blunt objects.

Upon digging it out of the bad memory pile, I figured that it was the front layer that was fucked. No broken glass.

So I used a razor blade to scrape off two layers: The anti-glare, and polarizing layers, and adhesives of course. After much scraping and peeling and cleaning with rubbing alcohol, I now have my LCD looking shiny new with a clean shiny glass face...

Of course, all the monitor will display is white.

What I need to do is replace the polarizer, the sheet that determines what light reaches my eyes. I don't know much about these as far as transmission percentages and qualities, and I have found two sites that offer both polarizing sheets and "high contrast" polarizing filters, even ones with anti-glare and adhesive, but they are shit expensive!

So, I'm sure nobody has run into this before, but anybody know where I should look, and what I should look for, to fix this problem? And possibly be cheap too? I checked ebay and googled it.

I did find one place that will "re-polarize" an lcd for $80 so I'm considering that if I can't find a sheet of polarizing film that's glossy and sticky on one side... Minimum dimensions, 280x340mm. Thanks fellas.  :mushroom2:

My buddy shot my laptop with a pellet gun and it's costing 300 bucks (after a 200 discount for full warranty) to replace the monitor.

You're lucky that's all you have to do!
