a mycodome experiment
    #5158868 -

So i am planning on buying a mycodome. although i know the initial components to make one would be far less expensive than the actual thing, im not worried about the price.

So far i have this on my shopping list of things to get. I have a 400$ MINIMUM budget, so if any of you vets out there think something should be added, by all means let me know.

list of things to get:
Mycodome and 6 substrate jars - 230$
1 spore syringe - 15$
special additive stuff - 20$

total price so far = 265$

I plan to update this as soon as i get my money out for the mycodome and later i will update it with follow-up pictures. im new to growing and thought, considering the timing was perfect, i would spend some newly acquired cash funds on a little experiment that im sure will be fun.

Why waste your money? Are you lazy, or too rich?

No offense to Ralph, or whoever it was that came up with this. It's just my opinion on that particular product.

With the kind of money you're willing to throw down, I would assume that you're wanting to become somewhat serious in the hobby, or so it would seem to me. If this is true, then seriously don't waste the time or money on buying substrate jars or mycodome for the PF tek, because within no time you'll want to move up to bulk (H-poo, straw, compost) and you'll have spent all that money on something that you're dissatisfied with.

My advice is spend the money on a pressure cooker, a martha, some humidifiers (more specifically one coolmist and one ultrasonic), some opaque plastic tubs, a dozen quart jars, some rye berries or Wild Bird Seed [WBS], and lastly some prepasteurized Tenn Stud Hpoo. That'll give you like tenfold what you'd get from 6 substrate jars and a mycodome for about the same price.

That's just my belief though. Good luck with whatever path you choose.

I would save the $230...you can do allot better then waisting it on that.

You could spend that on a killer PC that will last a life time and holds it value.

But I just don't like 'kits', you can make what you need cheaper bigger and better....

a bag of WBS like $10

Ball jars PT QT

50/05 mix

$15

$1 something each

A pressure cooker is the big expensive item

Get this book

$40 to dry all of your mushies

Get more then one syringe

though no one will ship to Kali...

look in to LC turn 2cc of spores into however much you wanted.

make some lids for the grain jars

just my 2 cents:bongload:

If you realy dont want to build your own setup why not buy one off someone here? $230 is a crap ton of money, adding up everything I own that I use for this hobbie I think I am at half that in cost. Not to mention personaly I like building things, part of this hobbie for me is just having an excuse to build things. If you dont want to put out any work or effort I dont think growing is realy the right thing for you honestly. My first ever grow I think I spent around $40 total getting jars, substrate, a syringe, and a rubbermade tub. $20 more and a trip to goodwill would have got me my PC (one of the best investments I ever made)  my exact presure cooker on Ebay $10 shipping would be hell though  It just seems like quite a waist of money IMHO.

I just dropped a decent amount of cash building my Martha, but that will quickly pay for itself. the only other major cost is your PC, and i had to go w/ the biggest one i could get and it cost just under $100. a PC also pays for itself quickly. supplies are CHEAP.

I Fully Agree With These Guys. I Once Upon a time bought a kit it cost like 65 bucks and i got a whopping 3 shrooms, need less to say i felt ripped, 230 for a mycodome is a RIP you can build a way better system, just take reading and deciding what to do from there, 230 will just about get you a deluxe setup w/ pc if ya put it to gether your self

most the stuff can be bought at , 1 of the many stores with mart in the name plus a trip to a feed store , and maybe a health food store, i just say shop around, if ya need advice where to get things just ask your in the right place to get and answer

one of the most beautiful things about this hobby is that everything you could ever need for any facet of it can be obtained easily, legally, and usually locally. everything is natural or is a household item. there's a million and one ghetto-tek's you could easily throw together for a first grow and get results.

If you are new at growing, you should spend more effort than money. It pays off in the end.

im not necesarilly interested in wasting money but im not concerned about this 400$.

considering the mycodome isnt good for bulk, are there any other kits out there, expensive or not, that would be in your humble opinion a good choice? this is only if you have happend to notice any, im not trying to cheat out of doing the research work or anything, i've read many different cultivation techniques and the such.

i have all this money and im pretty serious as far as getting into this hobby, just im kinda lazy and have little time and space to invest into building anything worth while (like the martha set up). so i resort to the next option, buying a kit/set up

The martha doesn't really take all that much work though. You buy the martha and like 6-8 containers for casing. Then get two humidifiers, tape up a spot on the plastic of the martha for support, cut two holes, and glue a hose to each hole. One hose goes to the coolmist, the other to the ultrasonic. That's all the work for the martha. To cut down work further, buy Tenn Stud pre-pastuerized poo instead of getting your own. The most work you have to do throughout the whole process would be in assembling jars of grain for spawn.

Build a pod or a double tub they dont take up much space, and you can build one in a few hours.

but I am going to say this one more time If you are lazy this is not the hobbie for you! All you will end up doing is trying to cut corners and growing mold, bacteria, or some other shit. And by cutting corners there is a small chance you can cause yourself or someone else harm. this does require work to do right.

I'm backing what Blueferret said...
There is a chance you could hurt someone just by your own ignorance, and laziness. Most likly though..you'll just end up throwing your money down the drain.
If your not into the research, then this hobby might not be what your after.
If you've done enough reading about the hobby and still want to continue, then I would have thought the first purchase would be a PC, or how your gonna get spore's.
It's your money, and your time....wish ya nothing but the best though

If you want to blow your money on a mycodome, go for it!

If you're looking for a similar small setup that yields 100 times what that setup will, I'd look into a double tub. The whole thing will run you less than $50 WITH jars, WBS, rubbermaids, polfil, poo, etc.

If space and stealth aren't a problem, look into a Martha setup.

A Poor Man's Pod is similar to a mycodome and a helluva lot cheaper also.

Some people just like to blow money, I'm not one of them.

If your itching to spend it, I'd buy a brand new AA941. You won't regret that move!

Build this, it couldn't get any simpler. After my friend does takes once or twice he's going to spend maybee 50 bucks building this. (That's if he has to buy a big drill bit).

Someday I will own a house that looks like a giant mushroom, it will be furnished with only bean bag furniture. My walls will be covered with tye-dyed tapestries and my doors will be plastered in stickers. When it comes time for me to retire, I will launch pumpkins at the airport with a crude catapult. THEY WILL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!

Don't shit on my dream.
