In a couple of years (when I get my licence), i'll be opening an oncological pain management/contract surgery anesthsia clinic. I'll be hiring a few other CRNA's (who are already in my class) to form a small anesthsia providers group... we'll basically be contractors for the hospitals here in New Mexico, providing anesthesia services and oncological pain care.

Start up is extremely expensive (several million), but there's such a high demand in the field, banks and public foundations will put up the money for it. I've already started the ball rolling with a couple of the medical providers here, and have already spoke with several banks about start up funds. All of them said they could work something out. Basically, the money is for buying the equipment that each person prefers to use... we all have personalized ways of doing anesthsia... and for paying for malpractice insurance for a group. Other than that, we use the hospitals equipment, and pain management is pretty routine. Write a 'script here and there, neurological tract continuity testers, radiological equipment...

All in all, I'm using a format already being used by a group in Santa Fe. Just modified to fit our locale, they even provided us with the original business plan they used to secure funding. Initial investments were paid off in 8 years with their group... not bad, considering how much money they make now, now that things are paid off. Their average incomes are all above $130,000 annually after malpractice insurance. Can't really beat that unless I become an anesthesiologist, which I am considering...

how much does malpractice insurance run you, i can see it being in the hundreds of thousands if not more per year. some docs are going out of business beacuse they cant afford it and make a profit.

We're ballparking about $50,000 a year. So figure each person is bringing in around $180,000 - $190,000 annually. That's for our own individual insurance, it's not quite as high as a physicians. But we'll have to also pay into group insurance for the business, probably another $10,000 a year per person, if not a bit more.

The main thing is to train and maintain current licensure for every provider, and REALLY be careful... they say an average of 1 out 4 doctors get sued during their practice, our field is about the same. Once one person gets filed on, the group insurance will go up, but it's our opinion that individual insurance is our own responsibility... so if you screw up, it's your own ass.

That'd be cool- tube amps are all the rage and really, not that complicated. The best amp is a piece of wire with gain.
