I know a shallow girl and it's one that wants her fiance to buy her a diamond ring when they need the money for the damn rent and the baby that is on the way.

I never understood that whole tradition of spending thousands of dollars on a wedding and thousands more on a ring. You could take that money and put a down payment on a house or something.

Diamond = Money = Value = Worth

A lot of women are materialistic, not for the sake of having cool stuff to play with, but just for the sake of having stuff to have. Women are very competitive, having more stuff then other women is part of this.

By owning a diamond, it means they're a valuable and worthy enough person for someone to commit to them and give something of such high value to... or its a trophy representing their own financial accomplishments and successes. It's the ultimate multi-thousand dollar self assuring ego booster for themselves, and ego slicer of other women. "That woman has a bigger diamond than I do, somehow she is a more valuable person." Yea... this is a pretty black and white way of looking at it, and obviously doesn't cover all situations or women.

Who really knows, though.. maybe its just because they're sparkly and pretty.. I'm sure for some women it is.

Like many of you have mentioned, it's about feeling special and having somebody who will do things (or buy things) for you. Some people aren't past seeing that as 'buying me diamonds', but everybody should have a partner who will do nice things for them.
I personally would rather have a handmade gift that shows thought and love than stupid rocks that they strip-mine the earth for.

dont buy diamonds, you are supporting a legal (cartel) monopoly.  I wish everyone was smart enough to not let something else hype them up into buying expensive overpriced crap.

Something personal and thought out means more to alot of people, rather than really expensive wasteful items.  Finding those people is the hard part :smirk:

Dimonds are anciant dinasours! They are precious and beautiful, The quiality in the way the reflect and shine is insane. I like other gemstones more like aquamarine, but a perfectly cut diamond is one of the most beatiful things, only one more reason for your wife to have one on her finger, they make a nice complement to any womens hand.

but always remeber diamonds cut and coal burns...

I think its funny that a bunch of people consider diamonds a waste when they probably smoke/drink $20-40 a day with no reservations. The diamond will still be there the next day while your metabolized drugs and expensive dinners float through the sewer systems.

Diamonds are not RARE. They are controlled by DEBEERS. What they do is mine a shit load of diamonds and than store them in a vault, and releasing only a certain amount a year.

Women like diamonds due to marketing.
