Hpoo Tubs

Ive got 2 68.1 liter tubs colonized with 4" of poo in them. I was wondering about how much coco coir it will take to case these. Thanks

figure out the dimensions of your tub, and how deep you want your casing layer to be, and then use this. You should be able to convert the volume of your casing layer to pints or quarts, at which time you'll know how much casing mix to use. You are sterilizing the mix in pint/quart jars and having it on hand, aren't you?

Yeah, ive got quart jars im going to pressure cook the casing mix in, but the main thing im worried about is that i dont know how much the coco coir expands when you buy it in the brick, so i dont know how much to buy.

1 coir brick is enough for 40 gallon tank it says on mine.

yeah one brick is a shitload. I broke off about a fifth of my brick and it expanded enough for a me to case an inch on my horse poo in my 10 gallon tub. So I believe one brick should be enough. When you put water in that shit it grows.

Are you planing on casing in strait coir? If you are you should think twice.
You need to mix that with verm. A little more verm then coir is best. Think about a Ph buffer as well (oyster/eggshell).

You don't need to sterilize casing mixes. In fact sterilizing them is not recommended. You should pasteurize it. I suggest in the microwave.

Preparing a little extra casing mix comes in handy when it's time to patch.

If you make more than you need you can dry it out and rehydrate when needed.
