secure privet messges?

i recived a SPM for the first time and made a new password thingy...
but i still can't read it!

it says
"Unfortunately, it is impossible to recover a passphrase or private key. However, you can create a new keypair with a passphrase you will remember. If you do this you will no longer be able to decrypt any secure PMs you have received up until this point, so use this option only as a last resort!"

how was i supposed to open it if i didn't have a key?
