Rabbits...

So, one drunken night, my roommate grabs a handful of business cards from a "win a free lunch" type thing. When we got home, there was a card that read:

RABBITS - will take unwanted rabbits

with three phone numbers on it.... and that is it.
I still cant figure out how or why something like this would exist. Who could make money from something like this? It makes no sense.

We have tried calling the numbers, but no one answers.

well...it was dropped in a business card bin.

Someone went through the effort of having these printed up. They are professionally done, with raised print on it and two pictures of rabbits (one cartoon like, the other real looking).

We left them a message though, about how we had a "bathtub full of rabbits"... hoping that we could confuse them as much as they confused us.

rabbit pelts make nice jackets and coats, rabbits feet are pretty big sellers to
the superstitious and just as a novelty, rabbit meat is quite tasty and some
resturants have hassenpheffer on the menu.

Yeah, but have you, or anyone you know ever had an unwanted rabbit?
I just dont see it being a problem that plagues your average american enough to make business cards aimed at making money from it.

People may buy pet rabbits for their children, but once they grow old and ugly, not to mention how bad their urine smells, the work & cost that goes into it, some people may feel discouraged. So they want to give it away, meanwhile that other guy probably kills them and eats them. Last year we bought 2 rabbits, one male one female, now we have 23, If we would let them keep reproducing we would have too many. In a week or so we're going to kill them all off and freeze them for uhh... eating purposes. Rabbits are food not friends :wink: I don't understand how people can have a pet rabbit, they do not have any emotions or sympathy for humans as cats or dogs do.

You're supposed to spay and neuter your pets especially if they are of opposite sexes. It also reduces risk of early death in lagomorphs and mellows them out. Rabbits can be trained and be very affectionate if you spend time with them and care for them...this usually requires an educated and active perspective though :smirk:

To the thread starter...rescue shelter? So people don't dump them into the wild when their kid's Easter present gets too much for them to handle?
