Who here Likes C.S. Lewis?

News flash fellow shroomerites: The Chronicles of Narnia are becoming a movie; it's coming out in December. I have ambivalent thoughts about it, if the movie is done exceptionally well, then it will be excellent, however, if the jerk-asses of hollywood screw it up, I will be utterly pissed! I've read that it is supposed to be the 'next Lord of the Rings'. Ya' know J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were close friends? they were part of a writers' group, which consisted of a number of professors(as well as classic prolific authors) and they called themselves 'the Inklings' isn't that cool? I went to the pub in London where the group would meet and share their writings, and give each other literary advice, it was MAGICAL! that is were
C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien often discussed The Chronicles of Narnia as well as The Lord of the Rings! How cool is that!!?? So, back to my original point, what do you guys think about these classic chronicles becoming a major motion picture?

Pretty cool, they could do a nice job with it I think. I remember some old TV version of Chronicles of Narnia...I don't really remeber how good it was, I do remember the books though, they were awesome.

I'm looking forward to this. :thumbup:

WETA is doing the effects, props, all that for it .. and they did LoTR so it should be amazing in terms of visual stuff..

cool beans! I didn't know that WETA is doing the visual stuff, that brightens my outlook and anticipation of the movie! It's gonna' be broken up into several parts; a number of movies released separately, right? I should know the answer to this; dho! teehee

Yeah I think they are doing others.. I've never read the series :frown: yet but I don't understand why they are starting with this book.. isn't it like third in the series.

I actually tried to re-read these books before the movies came out like I did with Lord Of The Rings - Hitchikers Guide...

Tooo childish for me to attempt to read - Boring as well...

THE movie should be tits though - They tend to make those not suck as bad :smile:

I really like C.S. Lewis; I find his writing style to be smart, funny and refreshing. I'm in the middle of reading The Screwtape Letters, I'm loving it! it's been a LONG TIME since I've read the chronicles of Narnia; I have to study it though, 4 work, and i was reading that Lewis intended 4 the books to be ordered in this sequence: The Magician's Nephew, The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe, The Horse & His Boy, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the "Dawn Treader", The Silver Chair, and The Last Battle. The books were not written nor were they originally published in this order, but Lewis commented on the sequence in later years, stating that they were meant to be read in the above order.

umm, I don't know what IRL means, but I do know that the books were not based on anything having to do with a laundry mat; they're based on something a LOT deeper.

Yeah.. hes very religious I believe.
I have a video and the book of The Question of God with C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud in which they discuss the existence of God.
