Convicted Crack Dealer, 74, Avoids Prison
Man Says He Sold Drugs To Pay Wife's Medical Bills

CHICKASHA, Okla. -- A 74-year-old convicted crack cocaine dealer in Chickasha, Okla., won't be going to prison.

George Lewis was given a 10-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of distribution of the drug.

Lewis said he used the money from selling drugs to buy cancer medication for his wife and to pay her medical bills.

Lewis' attorney said Lewis had never committed a crime in the past and that his wife is now under hospice care and the costs of medication and medical bills are covered.

Prosecutors argued for a 20 years prison term, but District Judge Richard Van Dyck said he could not see how a prison sentence would benefit Lewis, the community or the state.

It's a sick, twisted, sad day in America when a 74 year old man has to peddle crack on the streets just so his wife can receive cancer medication.

My wife died from crack cancer. The only cure was meth, but she just couldn't IV it fast enough.

thats bullshit.... im fuckin pissed... one of my friends is in jail for 3 years for selling coke... why cant he just say he needed the money for food and a place to stay??? its not like he has an escalde rollin on dubs he just an average dude... fuck

The guy didn't go to jail because the judge felt sorry for him because he is 74 and his wife has cancer, end of story. Justice systems are bullshit, LSD helps you realize this. Well, at least I think it did me.

well first off people have to do what they have to do .you cant count on anyone for anything except yourself.people you should all know that.we have a good government which can be made better.i am glad though this man had not went to prison, but i bet hehad been selling no 74 yr old just gets custo's not knowing shit.think about it.
