the Yucatan Peninsula is fucking doomed

I feel so bad for them, i stayed in Playa Del Carmen last February and made alot of friends in Playa and Cancun..
i'm (very mildly) trippin right now and i'm lookin at the pictures from my vacation.. its makin me fuckin sad.

holy shit!! that is one mean hurricane.. for those that dont know it basically decided that its gonna chill over mexico and cuba for a few days pounding 160 mph winds and not move like hurricane are suppose to.Good for floridians though but now i feel guilty

Wilma just completed an ERC (eyewall replacement cycle), and will now begin to re-strengthen probably back to a strong Cat 5 storm. You can see she has re-formed her eye QUITE well in the lastest sat image:



The Yucatan is, quite plainly, fucked. Say goodbye to Cancun.

think about Cozumel, the island right off the coast of the yucatan. i went scuba diving there earlier this year... it'll be wiped off the map.

We did yesterday, when Wilma grew to the strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic.

Three of the top-six Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded have happened this season (Katrina(6), Rita(4), Wilma(1))  :eek:

When I was down there (Yucatan peninsula) last year I went to see some Mayan ruins near Costa Maya.  The guide there was telling us how none of the trees around us in the rainforest were more then 50 years old.  He explained how about every 50 years or so a hurricane will wipe out all the older growth trees so nothing gets a chance to mature beyond that.

I wonder how much different it will look next week compared to when I was there a year ago! :shocked:
