Piano
    #4657154 - 09/13/05 09:20 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

I'm trying to compile a CD with nothing but songs that are either alreeady piano, or maybe a live or unplugged version of a song with a piano.

This is for sleeping.

So far I got:

coldplay - yellow (piano version)
seal - kiss from a rose (unplugged)
ben folds five - brick
smashing pumpkins - mellon collie and the infinite sadness

.... what else?

All good choices so far. I'll poke around my playlist and see what I come up with.

Sarah McLachlan's "Do What You Have To Do" off of her live Mirrorball album.

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

^ Get that, it's fucking great. I'm learning to play it on my keyboard right now, actually. edit:I guess I missed that one the first time I read your post

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata
REM - Nightswimming (cheesey lyrics but good piano)
Skinny Puppy - Amnesia
Van Halen - Right Now

Everything But The Girl - Driving (acoustic mix) off of their Adapt or Die: 10 Years of Remixes album. It says acoustic mix but it's actually all piano. Tracy Thorn's voice is incredible.

Burzum- Moti Ragnarokum

Except it has the occassional violin string, and you sound like a purist.

Brad Meldhau is one of the finest pianists of our time. He creates original compositions and also released an entire album of piano only radiohead covers.

ALso may I suggest any live solo performance of phish's keyboardest, withinin certain songs,. Such as Squirming coil.
And most of all, get some art tatum's solo works.
His interps. are the end all be all

I only wish I could think of more contemporary artists with solo work out(though there are many). Id in this case stray into other types of music, like contemporary renditions of classical tunes by the boy wonder YoYo Ma. Hes middle age, but it sounds like he is too perfect of tone even for the greatest masters. People hate him for this.
Do you have some reason for a strictly piano mix, they sell that shit on tv you know?
Also,
some of docter john's later more sirene pieces are up to par with the mix
