Walmart and Xbox

I have an xbox that I bought around 3 years ago and I want a new one. I was wondering if it is possible to buy one from walmart or target, put the old one in the box, then buy a birthday card and put in the bag. Then go to customer service and tell them I got it as a gift and tell them I don't need it since I'm leaving for college and won't play games there. Then I'll dump out the box with the birthday card.... And get my money back and a new xbox, lol.

they may put the serial number on the receipt they are supposed to and the employees are supposed to check the serial number against the machine you are returning some do some don't

I agree go for it! I tried a similar thing. Remember when Xbox was sending out that notice about their replacement power cords? Well i tried to convice them over the phone that it was the faulty cord that caused my x-box to fuck up (they have great games and gameplay but the console is a piece of crap!) It didnt work out too well but they did offer em a discount to get it repaired (i ofcourse told them to shove it and hung up) but i got something! SO try it out see what you get.

yea that will work except believe it or not the serial number on the box is only attached via adhesive and you can actually peel it right off if you get a razor blade under it.. so swap the serials then just wash your old box off a little, make sure you delete everything from the memory, wrap the controller up in the plastic and you should have no problems... haha goodluck

I have xbox live on my xbox, is that a problem? Don't all the new xbox consoles have xbox live software on them already?

Yeah, all the new xbox console's have the updated xbox live software, they won't check that though.

I'm thinking of doing this same thing.

Right after i got GTA SA my xbox shit out on me. I'm gonna buy a new one, switch the serial sticker, and take the old one back.

It should work.

They decide that certain people are horrible (Walmart, people who wear suits) and that they are better than them, so they create a fantasy world in their minds where stealing shit from Walmart is actually heroic or something, even though it's really just as selfish as anything.

Maybe if they were stealing food to feed their families or something, but an X-Box? Gimme a break. If you can't afford an X-Box, then go get a job so you can afford one. If you don't have the money for it, wasting your time on video games isn't going to make you any better off.

Even though it's a lot cheaper than an Xbox, I've bought a RCA tape transmitter before, took it out of it's box, replaced it with my old one that worked like shit and returned it with the package of the new transmitter. No questions asked at Kmart.

@phluck: Taking from corporations isnt a big deal, it's not heroic, but I dont see it as bad. I dont give a shit about Martha Stewart, her cooking makes me shit anyway.

Yeah dude, this will work, but you've gotta be careful:

1)The xbox can't have any scratches or marks or anything on it. It has to look brand fucking new!

2) Be REALLY careful when peeling the serial sticker off. If it looks fucked up or crooked then they will know that it's tampered with! Has to be perfect!

My friend tried to do this with his PS2, but when he peeled the sticker off with the razor, he slipped and cut the damn thing in half. He decided to keep trying anyways, but when he put the two halves back together they didn't line up and the bar code was all shifted and shit! They totally didn't buy it! LOL!
