Vancouver's drug strategy praised by U.S. judge

VANCOUVER - An American judge says when it comes to drug policy, Vancouver is on the right track.

Judge James Gray of the Superior Court of Orange County, California is in Vancouver to speak at the Canadian Bar Association Conference and Expo, on a panel titled 'The New Underground Reefer Railroad.'

He says he applauds Vancouver's 'Four Pillars' approach to drug policy-- and says the city is 'enlightened' when it comes to these issues. He says Canada should resist any influence by the U.S. or any other foreign government-- saying how one country handles its domestic drug problems is nobody else's business.

Judge Gray wasn't willing to comment specifically on the U.S. drug charges faced by B.C. Marijuana Party leader Marc Emery, because the matter is still before the courts.
