Officials destroy thousands of pot plants
August 3, 2005 - visaliatimesdelta.com

Nearly 13,000 marijuana plants from two gardens in the Wishon Creek area of Tulare County were destroyed Tuesday by law enforcement officials, the third such operation in five days. A total of 20,193 plants have been destroyed in three separate operations conducted by the Tulare County Sheriff's Department Tactical Enforcement Team. Plants destroyed in the three operations had an estimated street value of more than $80 million.

Marijuana plants in Tuesday's operation were found in the Wishon Creek area near Springville, and were estimated to be valued at more than $51 million.

Previous operations include:

*On Friday, a total of 2,820 marijuana plants were taken from two gardens in the Badger area along Highway 245. No arrests were made in connection with the operation.

*On Monday, 4,582 plants were taken from three gardens in the area of Backbone Creek and Blue Ridge, also near Springville. Again, no arrests were made.

No arrests were made in Tuesday's operation and no information was available on whether people tending the garden were in the area when the law enforcement agents arrived.

The Sheriff's Department had been flying over and walking through the area in the past three weeks. They conducted the operation with assistance from Forest Service Law Enforcement, California Fish and Game and others from the Campaign Against Marijuana Planting. CAMP is a state agency that assists local law enforcement with marijuana eradication.

All three cases are under investigation by the Tulare County Sheriff's Department. Another operation is scheduled for today.

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. All I really know is that those few years saddled me with a faith in the redemptive potential of the imagination which, however flat, stale and unprofitable the world seems to me now, I cannot for the life of me shake.
