okay, at last the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate cycles are complete - all zero. pH perfect at 82, temp 78.
salinity a little high at 3.2%, but there has been plenty evaporation in the four weeks since it was filled, and i'll be replacing water so this should help to remedy it.

fish shop tomorrow  :laugh:

well, since you are all so eager for updates, i'll comply  :wink: protein skimmer now active, and reverse osmosis unit purchased for ?90 that makes 3L clean water per hour. tank stats: 79F, SG 1.029, NH3 0, NO2 0, NO3 0, Cu 0, pH 8.1

2 clownfish now in residence, Nemo (of course) and Sushi :heartpump: - apparently they all start out as male babies, then the bigger one turns female so they can fuck  :thumbup:



next i have to decide whether to believe the internet or my local marine shop - according to the net, it is now okay to add invertebrates (snails and hermit crabs) as cleanup crew, to polish off the algae..... but the shop people said to wait 4-6 months, as with anemones. i know i have to take it slow, but i don't plan on waiting more than another fortnight before i add my next livestock, as the nitrate and ammonia have cycled.

Nemo is the one with a 'special' stripe.

I've always had fresh water aquariums, someday when I have a few $ to spare maybe I'll get myself a saltwater setup!
