Any tattoo artists around? I need some help with a design...

I've been thinking about getting a tattoo lately, and the one I would really like to get is of the Donald clan crest (me being a McDonald).

I don't really know much about tattoos, tattoo design, or what kind of detail can be done in a tattoo...so I'm just wondering how plausible it is to get something like this:



Should I try and remove some of the finer detail? Or could I just get it as-is? Also, how much do you think something like this would cost (with and without colouring)?

Ive seen tattos that have a lot more detail than that.

Well I'm sure more detail = more $$$...and I'm not the richest guy around :smirk:

I also don't want to cheap out on it, though, so if it's just going to cost too much to get the detail I want I'll have to put the idea aside for now.

no that's a pretty simple design...

any moderatly skilled artist with a good tranfer,could do that...

and i'd wouldn't be very expensive compared to most....

That's what I figured, and that's why I don't want to cheap out on it just to get a tat. I'd rather not get one than get a shitty one, obviously.

$100-$150 doesn't seem bad though...would that be considered a "cheap" tattoo?

How big do you plan on going? If that's the actual size I could see between 150-200, but also the bigger it is the more detail you can put into which means better looking tattoo and more $.

Depends how big you get it.. but 100-150 canadian sounds... about right to me.. if it is small. I guess that's considered a cheap - moderate tatttoo.. 100 (US) is about the minimum for most tattoos regardless of size - of course this depends on the artist. Some charge more, some charge less. Some are worth the extra they charge, some aren't.

The guy I went to does all custom work and charges $100/hour. My tat took 7 hours.

That sounds about right for a good artist.

Goobs I am also craving an (arm) sleeve. Might as well finish my arms off. It's gonna be expensive what I want though.. and going to wait and find a real good artist.

I want to get it either on the back of my lower leg or underside of my forearm, so that is about the size I would think of getting. Maybe a little larger, but not by much.
