Do these things work? I added one from the General board to my Firefox Toolbar links and they have not updated properly. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, but they are somewhat confusing... try this:
1. Copy the URL of the RSS feed to the clipboard
2. Go to Bookmarks -> Manage Bookmarks
3. Go to File -> New live bookmark
4. Paste in the RSS URL and give it a name, then select the Bookmarks Toolbar as the folder (or click OK, then drag the bookmark to that folder from the main folder)

Firefox's bookmarks system needs an upgrade, hopefully that will be taken care of in v1.1. If I knew more C++ I'd try to help improve it.
