What's Spain like?

I lived there for awhile so i know what its like in general. but i was kid so i didn't really paid attention to any counterculture or alternative life style's.Ive been toying with the idea of studying there. So for those that have been there what its it like from a (for lack of a better word) "hippies" point of view.Barcelona in particular since i have family and a place to stay there but any place in Spain really. what is there to do how are the drug laws etc.

One of my best friends is from Spain. Spain is in a good place right now...very liberal-minded people. Alternative lifestyles/counterculture are booming right now...I would call now the '60s' for Spain. You're right next door to Morocco so for 'hippies' :wink: hasj will be cheap and plentiful. afoaf was busted over there for a half oz of hash but got off very leniently. Just keep it out of plain sight and you'll be fine. My friends have no problem growing plants on their apartment balcony.

I distinctly remember getting off the train in San Sebastian from Bordeaux, getting into a hotel room (room in an apt, splurged for 25 euros a night for two nights for the 2 of us) and looking into the courtyard to see 2 diffrent people with cannabis plants growing on their balconies.  That pretty much sums up their stance on drug laws.

I only spent about a week and a half in the country, kind of cheated it, but it was awesome.  In Barcelona I met up with some locals and we took shots of absinthe and smoked spliffs on the waterfront.  Great town. :laugh:

That sounds so sweet. I miss my hippie days of the late 60s.

But really my personal life is much better now. But I miss the laid back optimism.  The music scene was so raw and you never knew what was about to happen next.

Maybe that's still true and I 'm a little jaded.

One of the things that interested me was seeing huge plants being grown in a backyard in Spain numerous times at overgrow.All i ever wanted was to grow with no worries :stoned: i stopped growing because of the paranoia over here. But i also remember hearing that all drugs even lsd in a personal amount where legal but im not sure if it was spain, or portugal.

I believe that is Portugal.

Its not like cops are going to harass you in Spain though...just mind your business and everything will be fine whatever your state of mind is :smile: I hope to be teaching in Barcelona in a few years, beautiful place :cheers:
