The Job Hunt
    #4383392 - 07/08/05 10:05 AM (18 years, 8 months ago)

I don't even know where to begin...I'm at this trippy cafe around the block from my apartment now, drinking some coffee and eating some eggs 'n bacon 'n home fries to power up my stomach for the big job search. I have not even the slightest inkling of what I want to do..my resume's ready, cover letter half ready, and I just have absolutely no idea what I want to do...very scared and excited at the same time.

I'm pretty tired of academia..I'm not in the mood to be part of that environment, at least not at this point in my life. I just escaped, why go back, even if from the other side? I'm looking to weasel my way into film/television.

Nice. Move to Canada and write a insane script that we can shoot low budge and we'll kickstart our Hollywood careers.

You're making me hungry as hell! I don't know what to offer as far as advice goes. Look for something that pays money that doesn't completely suck

You live in New York City, dammit... there's bound to be a job out there for you

Just walk up to the first business guy you see, punch him in the face and be like "HEY ASSHOLE IF YOU DON'T GIVE ME A JOB I SWEAR TO GOD I'LL KILL YOUR WHOLE FUCKING FAMILY," then pull a knife on him.

Do you have to worry about drug tests?
Are you clean?

That is my biggest issue when looking for a job.......worrying about being tested.

I am most certainly not clean, marijuana-wise at least...I think in the areas I'm looking that drug tests won't be an issue.

isn't it usually only large chains that do pre-hire screenings? most 'local-businesses' that i know of don't...

Even if you're not clean and you know it... take the test anyway and make the company pay for it. :-)

  Let's hope so!  Like David Byrne says...if you dress the same all the time with certain marked characteristics about you, you come off like a cartoon character and people will remember you!
