Earth Stars - Need raindrops............so do we.
    #4354383 - 06/30/05 06:49 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

While hunting and collecting I stopped for a moment to find some beautiful Earth Stars. Earth Stars need raindrops to survive. When a raindrop hits the papery endoperidium it blows the spores sky wood. Nature sure rocks.

Has anyone else found any Earth Stars? They are common here in Australia.

I have found them. They are one of the coolest shrooms out there. MJ posted a picture of one ejecting spores last year. If you do a "Search Posts" you may find it.

I find them all the time in FL fields... they are the most insanely beautiful fungi i have ever seen in my life. When I first stumbled upon them, i was apprehensive to touch it (thought they were little animals of some kind...)

I remember finding an earth star in some woods when I was about 10. I took it home with me and got a book from the library and managed to identify it

I've always found fungi to be fascinating!

I see them alot too. As a matter of fact, I just saw one that made me think a little about that hole at the top.
Nice pics
