Adopted a Leopard Gecko!

Yay! So my brother is in 1st grade. His class had 2 geckos as pets. My mom always offered to watch them during vacations. Well one of the geckos died and the teacher asked my mom if she wanted to permanently adopt the other one. My mom already has a few pets and didn't want more responsibility. SO she offered the gecko to me and of course I accepted it.
They originally thought it was a HE and named it Charlie Brown. But it's actually a female and her new name is La Femme Nikkita.
My problem was figuring out the size of her tank. I ended up getting a long 20 gallon b/c i might get a second one. That's good right?

20 gallons is fine. when i was in 4th grade i went through a lizard phase and bought a bunch of books. I had 2 leopard geckos in a 60 gallon tank. they're tough fuckers. Once they were healthy (fat tails) I could forget to feed them for a few days and it would all be good.

Ok well let me borrow it for a couple weeks to rid these little knats flying around my plants. I can't seem to get rid of them all, they love the light or something

god damn nats.
sadly, the lizards were long donated to a little girl i knew who loved reptiles.
watching the geckos eat is bad ass though. they will just be chillen then whip around and snap into a cricket. meal worms are better for them, but boring.

leopard geckos are badass. a 20 gallon tank for 2, or even 3 would be fine, just be sure that there is only 1 male in there. 2 and they will fight, alot.

i had some green anoles as my first lizards. fuck those creepy things.
I think a bearded dragon would be the best lizard to have if you had the time/money and space to allow one. well, an iguana if you had the space, but no one does.

ya i heard that the gecko im getting, she doesn't like waxworms. she only eats crickets. eh. also - do u keep crickets in a bucket or is it better to just buy them like once a week, keep shit fresh? i heard they smell if u keep them around too much.
my house is a zoo. haha. i got my fish (who when i put my finger in the water to check the temp... they swam up and nibbled my finger, a little shock at 5am). my caterpillar just cocooned himself today (i can't wait to see what he turns out to be!!), a spider under glass (he scares me..) and now my gecko who is arriving tomrrow afternoon!!!

Crickets are rank. And the lizard set up will stink after a bit as well. Its hard to avoid the smell unless your vigalint about cleaning.
I would just buy like 20 crickets at a time from petco. I had a mesh bucket deal that I bought there as well that I would keep the crickets in. An apple wedge would keep them alive. I forget how much or how often I fed the gecko. Probably 3-5 a day or something. I have no clue really. Get this powder they sell at petco, calcium powder I think, and put a bit in a ziplock baggy. Dump in a few crickets and dust them before feeding.
again, the smell sucks, but I was a lazey little kid and that may have been the main cause.

yea u can keep crickets in a 5 gal bucket, or really anything with a slick side they cant crawl out of. put in some uncooked grain food, like dog food or quaker uncooked oats, a wedge of fruit, n ur set. yea u dust the crickets with calcium powder, a very popular brand is Miner-All. Iguanas are never good pets, they get huge and males can be extremly aggressive. a healthy adult male iguana will not let u touch it.

before i was offered to adopt this gecko - i've wanted one. so i was looking at petstores for them and my boyfriend was like "I'll give you $100 to buy an iguana" and i was like "no... how about u give me $25 for a gecko" and he said "hell no, u either get an iguana or snake." haha... he made no sense.
