Customs foils bids to smuggle ecstasy into Australia
May 27, 2005 - smh.com.au

Two attempts to bring ecstasy into the country have been foiled by Australian customs officials in the past 24 hours.

In the first incident 5 kilograms of ecstasy tablets were discovered in the lining of a 31-year-old Dutch woman's suitcase at Melbourne airport.

The woman, who had arrived on a flight from Vienna, was charged with importing and possessing a prohibited import, namely a trafficable quantity of narcotics.

She was expected to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court today.

Meanwhile, customs officers at Sydney airport found MDMA powder in the lining of a 20-year-old Dutch man's baggage.

He had been stopped and searched by officials after arriving on a flight from London via Singapore.

The man was charged with importing a prohibited import and was expected to appear in Central Local Court today.
